Does anyone use a homemade hatcher? I have a Hovabator 1588 as my incubator (which I love), but now have gotten myself into a staggered hatch situation... :\ ... that is soon to get even worse!! I was thinking about trying to make a hatcher rather than buy another incubator....
I made mine using an old plastic cooler, a wooden box would work too. Needs to be something that has good insulation . . what do you think??

I made my own, took a few weeks to find this and that to put it together. I did buy a few supplies available at a hardware store ( WHT) and bottle lamp kit ( walmart) and this was my second try at electical wiring!! PUt a PC fan in my LG was my first!!

We passed 100,000 last year as I remember!

Ok silly question for Sally Sunshine, or anyone else! When you are using a separate hatcher can we use a LG still air incubator and if so do we need to open it once a day during lockdown for air exchange or do you keep it completely closed and just put more air vents in the top? My son wants to try having a separate hatcher and I have not made the decision yet on which type of incubator we are going to upgrade too. I'm thinking Brinsea but I just looked at another that I am debating so for now we are using our hovorbator and thinking about the old LG for hatching this round! We want to have our new set up for the Easter hatch but want to practice now just in case!! Our eggs go in lockdown tomorrow night and I have the LG ready just need to know if we leave it shut or need to open for airflow?? I know silly question but this could actually explain a lot about our past hatches lol!!!
I use my LG usually as a hatcher, keep the holes on top open!!

I built an incubator that holds 6-7 dozen eggs, then move over those eggs ready for lockdown. Easy. Work well as a hatcher IMO!!

I wrote the wrong date in the diary for the NYD hatch, so I'm hoping to get in on this one! I've just got to figure out if we'll be away for easter weekend... debating whether I want to go away or not. It'd be a rare treat, but then there're chicks.... ooooooo the dilemma!
As I remember last year, many folks needed to set early or late just for that reason!!

Good morning peeps! Its T-32 days till setting eggs! Its time for some Fun Chicken Facts:

Chickens are frequently mentioned in religious text & mythology. The islamic faith believes that when a cock crows it is because he has seen an angel. In the Hadith, Muhammad commands, "When you hear the crowing of cocks, ask for Allah's Blessings for they have seen an angel".

Now don't I feel extra blessed. My property must be full of Angels day and night!
Love it!!!! THAT is a great reason to keep roosters!!
