I like your names : ) I have been trying to figure out a really good name for my Lav roo so, now Im thinking Orry from North & South.

You know, 99.9% of the time, I prefer the book to the movie. My imagination can do anything in a book, with a movie you are limited to someone else's vision. Movies have to trim stories (like leaving out kids) and sometimes dumb down stories for readers (I thought there was a huge change in Thorn Birds).

But North & South was the exception, I preferred the mini-series to the book. The author was too piddly detailed for me, when a character walks into a room and it takes two pages to describe what they're wearing ("there was a small wrinkle in the cuff just above the button on their left arm"), it drove me nuts! LOL

Man, of course I end up picking up eggs today only to see to be in the Easter hatch I'd have to have waited until the first of the month.../ sigh. Guess ill just be watching again this year!

Is there a Trader Joes or Whole Foods near by?

They sell fertile eggs and they hatch! Look at my Avatar...The two white pullets are Trader Joe's Leghorns!

I thought the Rhett book gave more depth and understanding to several of the people from Gone With The Wind too!
I like naming mine after characters from books I've enjoyed too. Since I saw the mini-series and read the book "Master of the Game" by Sydney Sheldon when I was a kid, I have always wanted two dogs named "Kruger" and "Brent". Never got to bestow the names on any dogs, but I do have two of my Blue Andie boys going by those monikers :)

I have my pre-hatchalong eggs in the incubator and just candled them tonight, day 7. Out of 23 i have 18 going on to week 2. 17 BCM eggs and one Americana's egg who is with my BCM roo. I also have a broody taking care of 3 BCM eggs, she is at week 2. This is addicting, I have BCM eggs being shipped to me, and that necessitated a new bator!

I am currently hatching what started as 12 Buff orps all the way from TN an 18 local giant cochins 9/12 shipped eggs are going great. 11/18 locals also. I would hve hoped for better fertility with the cochins but it was extreemly cold the few weeks before pick up. That may effect it.

I havea neice and two nephews 10, 12 and 3 who are fascinated with the process. They have their scale, spreadsheet and pencil to mark the aircell. I give them homework each week to look up facts on chickens using reading and performing calculations. Its fun for all of us

my chicken list for the easter egg run to the Philippines is finalized:

Dorkins
Naked Neck-turken
New Hampshire Red
Orpington - Buff
Seabright - Golden
Plymouth Rock - Barred
Jersey Giant - White
Australorp
Ameraucana - White
Marans - Cuckoo
Polish - White Crested Black
Silkie
Crème Legbar

plus coturnix and guinea fowl.

should be some fun hatching times

Time for a back up plan? I hope your hens start liking him soon.
HOPEFULLY getting some russian orloffs in the post, which I'm really excited about. I did separate my white araucanas, but either she doesn't like being separated from her buddies or she still hasn't started laying again (I only have a pair).

All this talk about Harmony hatching eggs... I keep thinking it's a hen

I named a chick Harmony, but changed it to Ginger when I discovered she's a he.
