Just picked up my first incubator to try to hatch some of my own eggs. So excited!
Awesome!! what kind did you get?
I'd like to enter this, please! My girls are picking up in egg production and I hope to buy some hatching eggs from somewhere local

Thank God for automatic egg turners, or else my college classes wouldn't allow me to hatch this year! OH and even better was that the egg turner I bought for my hovabator was on sale the other day at TSC (little giant but it fits and works just fine in mine) when I went for dog and cat food... and came out with the food plus an egg turner and 6 little chicks

.

This will be my third time incubating, I hope to have a better hatch success rate this time and I do plan on setting a larger amount of egg

YAY!!!
So egg collecting is starting soon. And Im a little nervous I wont have any fertile eggs now. I made my breeders pen only 5 days ago and just today noticed my rooster has an awful limp. I dont know what happened to him, Im guessing he pulled something or sprained something, I will look him over if his limp doesnt improve. But back to my eggs AGH now he might not do his rooster duties and I may not have very many fertile eggs. I guess we will see. OH my poor Rooster.
oh I hope he gets better soon!!
Went down to feed and water our breeding pens and broody hens and look what I found!

There are still 4 Call Duck eggs under my Bantam Cochin hen.

Yes, coccidiosis kills fast. All birds are exposed to it from the soil, but sometimes their bodies get overloaded and they can't fight it. It's not a disease that you need to cull for - they can fully recover from it. Older birds rarely get it because they have been exposed to it and have developed an immunity to it.

Corid is amprolium. It is not an antibiotic. It is an amino acid that blocks thiamine. The Protozoa that causes coccidiosis is sensitive to it, so it helps the birds recover and develop an immunity to it.

Here is the dosage - 1/2 tsp per gallon. Don't mix anything else in the water with it.

I don't know much about how long they can survive with the Cocci going untreated, but when I found that one of my chicks had it (there was blood in her poo) I started giving them all doses of yogurt that they could eat whenever they wanted. It really helped, and so did the medicated chick crumbles I gave them. You could always give your chicks some plain yogurt to help their system. If nothing else, it's at least a good treat.

Hi Red. Butttermilk..try buttermilk. :) Better on the chicken than yogurt.

I was just looking for a page with dawg on it! I have looked also, to see if there is a withdraw period from eating eggs..I take it there isn't, I haven't been able to find him saying there is anywhere.
