Snowflake got up on our roof, then over to a HUGE tree,. FInally got her down from there and spent the next several minutes chasing her all over. FInally got her and clipped her wings!! No more flying for this little lady..

Thank you for the response Happy Chooks. On a site such as this with such a global following, it's just sad that so many are excluded. Surely there must be some Canadian egg producers/product suppliers on this forum that would be willing to participate? I appreciate your trying to accommodate.

I was really excited to join the hatch-along and see what contests would be offered this time. I had already been making plans to set March 10 for an actual Easter Day hatch and secured all my eggs, but then the hatch-along data came out wanting a March 9 set date. LOL Figures. Since I'm ineligible for all the contests, all I can do is follow along instead of participate.

As an aside, I took matters into my own hands and set up a Canadian site for egg swaps with the expectation that we Canucks would still be able to participate in BYC hatches/contests. If the trend continues to exclude us, I suppose we may end up doing our own hatch-alongs too

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case.
Did you see the updated post? The Cutest Baby Fowl Contest was opened to Canadian folks.

If anyone in Canada would like to donate a hatching eggs prize, I'd be happy to run a contest for Canadian folks. Unfortunately, we can't ship hatching eggs over the border from the US.

De De flew to the big corn patch in Heaven. very first chicken we ever got. (first one to enter the box)

I wanted to share these too!

Will eggs 2 weeks old still develope well? I was thinking of starting collecting next weekend but I cant decide whats a good day.
Yes. I've hatched eggs 3 weeks old and will be doing it again for this hatch. Viability does begin to drop after 6 or 7 day and you may not get as good of a hatch rate from them.
Fresh eggs have the best hatch rate and the older they are the percentages drop. So I would say hatchability would be something like this:
1-6 days excellent
6-10 very good to good
10-14 good to fair
14 and older---good luck :)

******If I am not right on any part of this please correct, as I am not an expert*******
I agree with this! Some of my eggs may be close 14 days old by the time the hatch starts, but that's ok. I'm hatching ducks too and I might keep one or two of them. (Only if I can find out male from female within a few days. If not I'll hatch more after the hatch-a-long.)

Is that even possible??

Well, I was hoping to ask HortonFarms if she had any eggs I could get for the hatch, but she hasn't been online since last year's hatch. She's the closest member to me that I know of and the only member I've met in person as far as I know. I guess I'll just be hatching what I have.

Its getting to that final countdown. We are T- 13 days to set day!!! Woot Woot! Some are even starting to collect eggs. Im wondering if I should go ahead and use my cruddy LG and have two bators going! If only my hens would get with the program. Breeding pens are giving me zero eggs. Mixed laying flock...plenty. Why oh why!!!!

Ok...time for some Fun Chicken Facts

Roosters perform a little dance called ‘tidbitting’ in which they make sounds (food calls) and move their head up and down, picking up and dropping a bit of food. Researchers have found that females prefer males that often perform tidbitting and have larger, brighter combs on top of their heads. Scientists think that the rooster’s wattle helps him to gain a hen’s attention when he is tidbitting.
