I hope your eggs are OK!

I qould like to join in the Easter hatching fun...is this all I have to do is post here? Our thread is buzzing with people doing the hatch and trying to "make" the rest of us join too!
Thanks--TErriO
Welcome! Yes, that's all you had to do to join.

woo hoo glad you are joining terri..fill up that bator!! I hope you get to fill it up with all of your beautiful rocks.Mine should be filled up pretty good with meatiess. That darn Imported blue Orp is still not laying...ohh well.

The duck should start to set soon too. She has 6 eggs already. The darn duck made her nest in the chicken coop. I moved her eggs out twice and she moved them back. So I left them.

Why is lockdown so nerve wracking? I keep thinking nothing is going to hatch. Of course today is only day 19.5 for this "test" hatch and I KNOW it is still early but until I can hear peeps or see pips I think the worst. I start worrying about past temps, humidity, shipping, weather, moon cycle, horoscope you name it lol.

Hi all! I need some advice from y'all.

I set 7 duck eggs yesterday (not done setting as I will be adding chicken eggs next Saturday) and the temp is staying constant (something was worried about since it's so cold) but the humidity is stuck at 16%! the water troughs are full, two sponges are in there and I have wet paper towels in the empty egg turner spots (about 4 of them) and it is still reading 16 % (constantly). Is there anything I can do to raise it?!?!

Thanks!

ahhh looks like my humidity gage isn't working on my thermometer! took it into the bathroom and turned the hot water on, with no effect on the humidity on my thermometer

SO took a sponge and all the paper towels out hoping that will be fine until I can get a new digital thermometer... grr

Glad to know I can start a little early...because I had to. My Ameraucana and marans eggs were 7 to 10 days old, and I had the new incubator stabilized (and oh, my, I actually was able to install the fan my own self :) now I am an electrician ;) . So, I put all seventeen eggs in the incubator (Hovabator with fan) Friday night at 9:39 pm, after poring over "Hatching eggs 101" and fussing with three thermometers and a hygrometer.

My questions this morning is, I found the hygrometer sayign "low" this morning after it had read in the 40 and 50% range since Friday night, and the well was dry.The water in well #1 dried up in three days on the initial run without the eggs. So, should it have dried up sooner with the eggs? Is it okay? I think I caught it very quickly, but now I doubt the hygrometer.

Hygrometers you can find at any pet store in the reptile section.

Humidity isn't that critical the first 18 days.

I do dry hatches, so I don't add any water for the first 18 days. I don't even bother putting a hygrometer in, so I don't even know what level it's at. At Day 18 for lockdown, I add water, put the hygrometer in, and get it to 55-65% and keep it there. Everything that is viable hatches without any problems.

Woohoo! Got three sassy fat babies last night! They are Marans

.
This is my favorite. I have already named him Booberry

All three together!

So cute! I love Booberry's face.

Yeah that was the dryer, haha. I use a flashlight with a high number of lumens...I can't remember how many, maybe 65? I also have one with 100+ lumens but that is almost TOO bright.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning and incubator was off....the outlet stopped working for whatever reason. Luckily I had two waterbottles in there to act as a heat sink, but the water wiggler temp was down to about 95. I moved it to a new room and it's warming up. I was afraid the incubator itself had died and I was freaking out a bit.

Eeek! Maybe I'd better stick a water bottle in mine, too! I'm so paranoid that one of our pets will bump it or the power will go out or something to mess up this hatch!

I hope your eggs are OK!
