Ok, so I just ran down to our dollar store and picked up a roll of blue shelf liner because I had read that a lot of you use it over the bottom of the hatcher wire to help with clean up and give a non-slip surface for new chicks. My very health minded sister looked at it and said she doesn't think we should use it because she thinks the rubber/plastic will give off toxic smells in a warm/hot incubator!!!

I said I didn't think so, and that a lot of you BYC'ers use it, but it does seem to have a bit of a chemically rubber smell... should I be worried?
Maybe cut out a piece the size of your bator and then put it outside to air out until tomorrow when we set.

WOOHOO!!!

My eggs totally came in last night! The sell scored me 4 blue splash marans, and 7 blue cuckoo (drool). Onwards!

Disappointed no eggs arrived today : ( usps must have had trouble from the south through the storm. Guess they'll get here tomorrow so some of mine might get set late. At least I've been saving some of my own, so I'll still have chicken eggs to set.

Quote: It will sorta get turned as the turner moves from side to side. I'll candle the eggs around 5-7 days into incubation and remove any non developers and then it will be in the turner correctly.

I usually stack them pointy end down, but for the picture, I just had it on it's side.

setting a total of 40 eggs....

12 bantam barred rocks
10 bantam white rocks
18 bantam black rocks

oh and i stuck 14 Icelandics and 2 bantam barred rocks under my broody hen last night....she is now a happy camper!
this is her in the front when she started going broody and didn't want to give up the nest box.

so i guess if you count hers (even though its two days early....that would be a total of 56)

edited because I obviously didn't drink enough coffee (my count was off)

I'm hoping for a broody to help out with some of these eggs! Yep count those broody eggs too!

Sign me up! I'm only doing 3 dozen, 2 dozen PRs and 1 dozen RIR . Setting them late tomorrow evening, for some reason they always start pipping on the 19th day.
Welcome!

Quote: Ditto. So sorry.
Quote: Yep, all of you with broodies make sure to get pictures for the Broodies and Their Babies contest! Nothing sweeter than a hen with chicks.

My EcoGlow50 shipped! I guess they weren't too backed up when I ordered.

Their site said out of stock until mid March, but it's shipped now.

Yes I was pleasantly surprise too! The two Eco20s I ordered should be here Monday so I can put them in my new brooders. The initial ship date was 3/20. I hope to finish assembly this weekend so they'll be ready for my "spring hatch"!
