I have great news! The rescued Silver Laced Wyandotte hen with the prolapsed vent has FINALLY made progress!!! It has been almost a week now since we picked her up and so frustrating - we were putting her vent back in 4+ times a day since she would push it back out every time she pooped!
Several in my family were starting to wonder if it was a hopeless case... We had several failed attempts to wrap her up at night to hold it in overnight. Then last night my sister tried another wrap, and... for the first time it stayed on all night! Of course she pushed her vent out with a large poo in the morning when I unwrapped her, but I put it right back in with some honey and witch hazel, and then...
I came back from the store at noon to find her perched on her tub edge preening herself and... her vent was STILL IN!!!! I asked around and no one else in my family had put it back in that morning. Also, while she was standing there, she pooped twice on some newspapers we had put down, and HER VENT STAYED IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't imagine what a relief this is to us!!!!! Pheewwww!!!! Now we will just watch her for a couple more days and then hopefully, introduce her to our flock outside.
