Quote: I would still get the baby vitamin drop without iron. Sometimes ones that look like that seem ok and then have problems on the second or third day.

Good chick starter will get the B vitamins in their system too but it take a while for that to work. You should only have to give the chick a drop or two to perk it up.

My duckling egg has external pipped. I also see at least one external pip on my serama eggs.

They've mostly hatched on day 21 for me like other chickens, but looks like at least one wants to be a little early.

Quote: I would wait. I have seen cute pictures of little chicks out on a pile of freshly dug dirt or etc. and then several days later, Help my chicks are sick! What happened!

The two things often go together.

They will love the sod!

Quick question. Whats the difference you bring the chicks to the outside or bring the outside to them? Same stuff is there regardless. I guess it boils down to personal experience and preference. I rather encourage either though, it will expose them and help build their immune system either way. Love the helping comments though you guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!

It's a little bit of the outside. Think of it as like getting an inoculation.

Of course do not get the sod from the chicken yard....

Makes sense to me...
We work so hard to keep things clean inside and offering them a small dose of the outside is better than giving them a huge dose unknowing how its going to affect them. We also don't know how strong there little immune systems really are and each chick will be different. Small doses of anything is usually always better than large ones.
Better safe than sorry, that's how I think on most things.

Now that makes sense thank you for clarifying for me. I'm old, stubborn, and get stuck in one train of thought sometimes. I call it cranialrectumitis
