So last egg in the hatcher was running around this am, sure don't look like a brahma!
Must have had a pen writing issue on the egg! LOL Cute nonetheless!

It is easy to blame USPS when the eggs are broken in the box. Times have changed and so we need to change the way the eggs are packaged. The Skyline Method or some variation will get them there even through multiple post offices. http://www.skylinepoultry.com/Packing___shipping_eggs.html

Then Wisher1000 took that up a notch: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment

Check out how she packed the eggs she sent me. Those eggs were shipped via ground from Alabama to CA. They traveled over a holiday and it took 8 days to get to me! Double boxing really helps with the eggs. The eggs hatched very nicely too.

Check out my post 855: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment/850 Those boxes both left the same state on the same day. The double boxed shipment cost $14.20 to ship.

I hope this helps those shipping eggs to get them to their destination in better shape.

There are still a lot of missing hatch numbers.

Please post your final numbers of chicks you hatched here so we can record them for the contests.

Deadline is 4/6 to get them in.

I had one hatch out of 11. The girlfriend that I bought him at the feedstore doesn't count :p.

The chick I had to assist still wasn't doing well so decided to cull this morning. That's never fun but for the best. Our shipped eggs never arrived and still awaiting word from the supplier before I crank up the incubator again. Hoping they get here this week so not too far off in age of this hatch. The drama today is our cat is giving birth. She's been needy and feisty/irritable for a few days now. I think all the young kids have been scratched even though they've been told to stay away from her.

Being a guy, I wasn't so sure about the chicken tiara contest. But you all are really coming up with cute and creative entries.
I am really thrilled with the entries, too. Every submission has been very clever and they each have their own charm. Not gonna be easy to pick winners. And what's this about "Being a guy?" Pshaw! Are you gonna tell us you have never had a hen who would be absolutely "complete" with a tiara? Ya might not have thought of physical headwear, but she exudes the Royal 'tude deserving of one? We're celebrating that - and BYCers with talent are bringing the concept to life. It's so very cool! Creativity and whimsy illustrated. :D
