The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Hi Ron,

I didn't know there was more than one style. I bought this one in 2008.
Ok then!

Temps are adjusted by rocker switches.

before adjusting, get an air duster and make sure the vents are clear inside the sensor and that the temp sensor is not touching the plastic.

If the rocker is on three(turn off the incubator), move it to off and the move 4 to on. if on 4, turn it off and turn on 5.

Let me know if this does not work--there is a master reset procedure too.

I'm doing a test run of incubation, had a hard time last time I tried hatching, candled this batch last night. Eggs from my backyard flock, covered by a brown leghorn rooster.
For such dark eggs, I took advice from a page/thread I read and used multiple flashlights. it looks like very faint pencil lines that I could just barely see. We do have veining though!

:fl

i would love to join the fun! I have some quail chicken and goose eggs ready to set.

YES!!!!

Count me in! I had a blast last year and this year I will at least have my own eggs to hatch out! I've already hatched out two batches so far this year and I just checked and I should have a bator empty in time for the hatch-along!

I started two hatches yesterday to check bators - 19 eggs in my Genesis 1588 and 19 eggs in my old bator, manual temperature. Well, after the initial temps were correct and the eggs added in, the 1588 never got above 98 degrees. I tried switches thermometers - they were true. I have been fiddling for two days to no avail on the 1588. So, I finally put all the eggs into the old incubator. I am going to have to learn how to adjust the1588 and increase the temperature - so much for automatic settings. It will interesting to see if I get anything hatching, although it has only been the first two days, so I might be able to succeed if nothing else goes wrong. My humidity is about 32%. I weighed all the eggs before I put them in, so on day 7 and first candling, I'll reweigh them, or at least a sampling, and see how the air pocket and weight is.

I don't think I will ever become lackadaisical about egg hatching, no matter how many times I do it!
I hear that!

This is my first hatch along!

How exciting! Are the geese as cool to candle as some of the breeds of ducks? I love candling waterfowl seeing the beaks! amazing and I always candle way way too much with them

I just candled all my candle-able(is that a word lol) eggs. 7 Sexlinks on day11 with nice size chick beans bouncing around , 6 CL on day5 all with GREAT veining, and out of 19 Olive eggs, 14 have veining(very hard to make out on day 5) and 5 are not fertile. I must have 1 shy pullet running from the rooster lol.

I also have 7 Spitzhauben eggs on day2 and 6 more CL on day 1.

I hope you can join!

2 things @Happy Chooks ....

if im not planning on hatching, can I still enter some of the contests? and im still part of the hatch.....im just not hatching so is it ok if im still on the hatch participants list you had put up?
You can enter any contest for all of BYC, which will be most of them. There will be a couple of contests for hatchers only.

For all of you who are doing the Easter Hatch-along and the Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-a-thon, just a reminder that the incubation of both will over lap so keep that in mind when deciding how many eggs you will be setting.
Good point! Everyone better borrow or buy another incubator.

I am wanting to join the Easter hatch. How do I join?
Consider yourself joined.

I just checked my calendar.

Oh no! Why not?

I wish I could. But my dad said that I can't have more chickens because I'm getting 26 in a week. :D
You'll still be able to enter the contests for all BYC members!

It would not seem like Easter without the Hatch-a-long! I was going to set a test batch yesterday, but we had ice storms predicted, so I held off in case there were power outages. The test batch will be my own Silkie, Ameraucana, and a few Buff Orpington cross brown eggs. I have had to check coops several times a day to try to gather the eggs before they get too cold or freeze. The Ameraucanas have just started back to laying, so I am in high hopes spring is on the way.
