to the point I may have to break out the kids nebu I really need to where a mask when doing coops. When does one learn?

I wear a mask every time scooping the coop and cleaning it as well as cleaning my cat boxes. just to be on the safe side from emphysema...

Well I shall have an interesting time of it. Because of technical delays (disasters) I got my pre-Easter hatch set late so that Hatching Day is the same as Setting Day for Easter Hatchalong. I am converting the fish tank brooder into a hatcher so I can conduct the lockdown in it and free the incubator for he Easter eggs.
Do you have photos of said fish tank brooder? Or will you take one once you convert to hatcher? DH keeps saying he could build me one out of the plethora of extra fish tanks he's collected due to his tropical fish addiction, but I just can't seem to conceptualize how that would work. I'm a Rubbermaid tote brooder type.

How about turkeys?

That is funny!

The nice thing about chicken math is your answer is always right as long as it is greater then zero.
Absolutely!

Ooh! I remember how this thread flew for the new year's hatch, so there's no way I'll be able to follow along much, but..

I would like to participate in the Hatch-a-Long!

Hopefully I'll have a broody still on set day. Got a couple setting now. I've had the incubators running constantly but haven't hatched a thing from them in months, so that will be a last resort. And I can set my own mutt babies.

Welcome!

Right place right time...DH went to the Sandlapper Poultry Show in Barnwell, SC. The Cream Leg Bar association had a raffle for fertile eggs. He did not win them, but he mentioned to the woman manning the both that he thought they were really pretty chickens. She in turn asked if he would like two because someone who was to buy them did not show up. He asked how much she wanted and she said he could have them for free. So off he went to find a box to take them home. They are both pullets and nearing laying age.

I would like to participate in the hatchalong!

Welcome!

I believe you pm the Host of the Hatchalong with the number and pic of the eggs you are setting. You are supposed to keep it secret from the rest of us because there is a prize for who guesses he closest to the exact number of how many eggs are set.

well oops on the duck eggs I will be setting a lot more chicken eggs so I will keep that a secret. :)

Wish I could do that. But no hard work for me right now.

Remember the duck I brought home from the feed store to take care of? Maybe I didn't post it on this thread, but the poor thing didn't make. They let me bring it home to try. Well, today, I brought home a little silkie that was being stomped on. Seems to be perking up a little, better than the duck ever did. Crossing fingers for this little one. They let me have this one too.

Are you using the Nutridrench for poultry? I have had amazing results with that and an injured mourning dove. She flew into a window and put her eye out and addled her brain. I put her in a box away from light and fed her water with sugar and the Nutridrench from a syringe (no needle) for 2 days until I could get her to a member of the wild bird rehab. By then she was acting more normal (no more pacing in circles in shock). They were amazed that she had not died right off.
