Yeah, I'm totally flipping out! When I first herd it peeping, I was like, "there goes my zebra finch again" and then I was like "well, just maybe it could be..." and the sound was coming from the egg! This little fellow wants OUT! lol.

First, I just HAVE to ask chicken pickin what was with the orange balloons in the photo of the hens... I can't believe nobody else asked!

Second, a friend and I went to opening day at Daffodil Hill, just outside of Volcano (California).






Those are just a couple of blossom photos I took with my cell phone. We got there as the place opened, beautiful in the early morning light.

How do you best answer the "how many chickens do you have now?" question?

I have been avoiding exact numbers with "not enough" and "look, over there!"

Anyone turn an entire barn into a coop? I may need to do that the way chicken math is headed!

Working on it!! Family used to ak how many cats do I have now . . . . 2 the others have been replaced by chickens and chicken math.

I just checked one of my emu eggs and it is CHIPPING,WHISTLING, AND WIGGLING like CRAZY!!! Then when I knocked the shell with my ring to listen what it sounded like, it was a very high, almost a spoon hitting a tea-cup sound. I even heard the little claws and beak scratching against the shell! Since it's peeping, does that mean that it has broken it's air sac?

Due to my addition to hatching, I put some eggs under a broody hen this morning. This is the first time I've tried this, but thought my daughter would enjoy the experience. It was so cute...I placed the eggs under her and she just wiggled her fluffiness around them and settled right in.

Oh MY goodness!!! Broodys with their babies are the sweetest thing ever. Hope you marked the eggs. (I've made that mistake before, it isn't pretty.)

Caught in the act! My 11-week-olds were MATING today! Is that normal? My RIRxEE cockerel was really digging my blue copper Marans pullet, LOL! I was hoping he was a she. :/

Caught my 8 Month old Beta Cockerel trying to mount my 10 week old pullets today, I mean, Come On! She's a little young for that business.

Cheeping from the hatcher...looks like 6 or so are out.

I love this time of year. Have been setting every weekend, mostly Iowa Blues with a few others.

Looking forward to setting a good batch of eggs for Easter!
