I am getting 4 silkies tomorrow and the lady said they are currently broody- will me stuffing them into transport boxes and driving them an hour to my house going to break their broodiness? not a deal breaker either way- I would love to set some of my barnyard mix eggs under them for the hatch a long, but if they aren't broody I won't be heartbroken. any tips to try to keep them broody?

oh and I was wondering if anyone else keeps egg/chick records? It has been really interesting to see my hatch rates and such- my husband thinks I am crazy but I was wondering if anyone else keeps track of their year?

I don't keep records but I like what I'm reading on there. Wow! You've got plans girl!

Quote: Unfortunately I have to agree. Rough day, started off with my LGD getting skunked. I was not too successful at washing her. She doesn't smell much better, and I snow smell like skunk! I did use the peroxide dish soap baking soda method.

Something mid day got our gorgeous black Orp pullet (fat Betty). I'm absolutely sick about it. Ripped her head and neck off, left her body. Our first thought is raccoon...but mid day? DH set the have a heart trap. Also took a shot at a fox out in the back field. Such a bummer. But....tomorrow is another day.

WoW & WoW!!! Sounds like a vino night on both counts. Sorry girl that just sucks

Best part of that day...Easter dinner family feud, ending up with myself running out crying, dragging my kids out behind me, we had mac-n-cheese & chicken tenders for dinner....Good Times..NOT! Really praying things are a bit more peaceful this year!

Oh no! My focus with relatives that are rude is to remind myself that I can not control what they say or do, I am only responsible for how I react. Then I try very hard NOT to react. Very hard to do with family.

Yeah, I kept my cool for 2 holidays before that, and this was the final straw. The upside, I think that particular horses rear end has finally realized they were acting exactly that part. Things have gotten much better!

Easter will be April 5th next year. Early birthday hatch?

April 5th is my daughters birthday! that will be a hectic day next year- birthday, easter, and a million chicks!

Yep, been there, done that...more than once & with both sides of my family. Someone always has to mouth off & be a jerk, so we just stay home most of the time now.

:th Sometimes it is a good idea to ask if certain relatives are on their Meds or not....

If not, it is ok to make your own family traditions. That is often better anyway!

Someone is ALWAYS in need of meds in my family...lmao

I hope every has had a great Friday.

Mine was good. I babysat my niece and nephew, my 4yr old niece is the best farm helper. I sold some chicks and eggs today. The family went shopping for our DDs bday party tomorrow shes turning 7(shes my youngest).

I have Spitzhauben hatching as we speak on day 20, 1 already out and 3 pips.

Oh and last night I set more eggs, I think 26.

I did this and that, and oh by the way.. I set 26 more eggs.. I think it was 26....

You sound like me..cute chicken pickin.

I am planning on incubating a few of our chicken eggs, as few as I can.... a couple silver pheasant eggs and also a few call duck eggs for the hatch-along.

But guess what...? My Goffins cockatoos AND my African Grey parrots decided to join in :) They layed eggs with perfect timing to hatch the day before Easter!

So..these moms will be doing their own incubating...Are these eggs allowed to be counted once we are counting?

When I got home my mutt Norma growled at me and ran away saying "buc buc buc buc buc buc" all staccato like and puffed up. When I put them all in tonight she was already in... a NEST BOX....when I went back out to shut them all in the coop... She was still there in the NEST BOX. She has never been a nest box sleeper I am not using the "B" word yet but you all feel free to label this behavior as you see fit. I may be able to play with you all after all!

Just thought I would share

What is she??? She is so very beautiful!!

Here are some interesting mixed breeds I had last year. I wish I would of kept the crele looking one. I don't know why I sold these.

I love mixes I love crested mixes these are lovely!

I was looking through pictures from last year and found this thought it was neat so I minds well share it! I can't wait for the warm weather to get here it looks nice in this picture sunny and breezy!
I want to bury my nose in its mane and inhale deeply. Horse smell=heaven

here is my pic of my broody silkie...she isn't actually mine yet I am waiting on the clutch to hatch...Her current mom sent the photo. I am hoping she is taking care of the eggs better than what it looks like in the pic but I assume she was either just getting up or just sitting back down after her walk and refreshment break Looks like she is fixin to tuck that one back under her.
