Last year's was March 31st...my birthday, my son's birthday, Easter & Hatching chicks. Best part of that day...Easter dinner family feud, ending up with myself running out crying, dragging my kids out behind me, we had mac-n-cheese & chicken tenders for dinner....Good Times..NOT! Really praying things are a bit more peaceful this year!

Sometimes it is a good idea to ask if certain relatives are on their Meds or not....

If not, it is ok to make your own family traditions. That is often better anyway!

So I wasn't going to hatch this year, we have our chicks that are almost 5 weeks old and all is well. Then this thread.... so I ordered some eggs (Shipped out Monday so they should get here in time right?) and a small incubator. Only it gets here and I notice the instructions say it blinks and plays a song.... What the WHAT?

This thing:

Why does it need to blink and play a song?

I think I messed up. As it is the hatch rate of shipped eggs is lower right? I am thinking we might not get any to hatch with this thing! It doesn't track humidity so is there something I can get to put in there to see that? -sigh-

I am getting 4 silkies tomorrow and the lady said they are currently broody- will me stuffing them into transport boxes and driving them an hour to my house going to break their broodiness? not a deal breaker either way- I would love to set some of my barnyard mix eggs under them for the hatch a long, but if they aren't broody I won't be heartbroken. any tips to try to keep them broody?

oh and I was wondering if anyone else keeps egg/chick records? It has been really interesting to see my hatch rates and such- my husband thinks I am crazy but I was wondering if anyone else keeps track of their year?

Oh great news.... I got my first Faverolle egg in weeks! This ones going to the incubator, along with Australorp eggs, which actually aren't laid yet.

I hope every has had a great Friday.

Mine was good. I babysat my niece and nephew, my 4yr old niece is the best farm helper. I sold some chicks and eggs today. The family went shopping for our DDs bday party tomorrow shes turning 7(shes my youngest).

I have Spitzhauben hatching as we speak on day 20, 1 already out and 3 pips.

Oh and last night I set more eggs, I think 26.
Sounds like a great day! Happy Birthday to your DD.

Thank you! Although, so far I am not enjoying it...
Unfortunately I have to agree. Rough day, started off with my LGD getting skunked. I was not too successful at washing her. She doesn't smell much better, and I snow smell like skunk! I did use the peroxide dish soap baking soda method. Something mid day got our gorgeous black Orp pullet (fat Betty). I'm absolutely sick about it. Ripped her head and neck off, left her body. Our first thought is raccoon...but mid day? DH set the have a heart trap. Also took a shot at a fox out in the back field. Such a bummer. But....tomorrow is another day.

Easter will be April 5th next year. Early birthday hatch?
April 5th is my daughters birthday! that will be a hectic day next year- birthday, easter, and a million chicks!

Oh no! My focus with relatives that are rude is to remind myself that I can not control what they say or do, I am only responsible for how I react. Then I try very hard NOT to react. Very hard to do with family.

I keep records, but they look nothing like that. That is awesome!
