So what does everyone plan on doing with all these chicks?
Hoping I will be able to join next year.

I will keep the turkeys to raise for thanksgiving, the ducks will probably sold as well as the chicks. I already kept a batch of golden cuckoo marans so I don't need anymore. If my one pheasant egg hatches I will probably sell it once it gets a bit older.

What do I do about the egg goo all over the other eggs?

When I have had a broody hen break an egg she is sitting on, I will take some papertowel and a container of HOT water and quickly wash the messy eggs with the papertowel dipped in the hot water, getting fresh ones as needed. You want water that is warmer than the eggs so the pores don't absorb it and the yolk. I have had to do this TWICE on one broody (other hens kept trying to get in her nest) and still had most of the remaining eggs hatch! Good luck!

I opened it up I ordered 12 eggs she sent 13 only one was broken so I guess I should consider my self lucky I can only imagine the condition the air cells are in.

I would say that is lucky considering what the boxes looked like in your pictures. Were there any "fragile" stickers on the box or anything indicating that they should be handled with care? If not then I might let the seller know to do that next time and show him/her the pictures of what can happen if there isn't a sticker. If it did have a sticker then I would contact the postal service so they can be more careful in the future. I sure hope the rest turn out ok! Good Luck!

I am setting 12 barnyard mixed eggs today. I stopped at 12 only because my bator is full from a few set last week... Ahem. Couldn't wait! The shipped eggs came early. Hoping for some Millie fleur Cochins a week before the big hatch day!!! Happy happy Dance. Do I need to post a picture???

Well, good morning all! My cat only had three kittens. Not a one look like a Siamese.

The kittens are still cute though.

Are those blues? So cute. Glad she is done..bet she it too. Now, when they start getting older and running around..more pictures!

Hey Kiomey, the eggs I got at our fun night are finally in my bator. Hope they do OK... I know they are a little bit on the old side... Gotta give them a chance though.

GOOD LUCK!  ^^ I am so very excited and nervous lol I only got 4 silkie eggs (which I had planned to give the chicks to a friend) but now that means I had all this room to set olive eggers xD but i'm gonna wanna keep those! Augh! Maybe I'll be over it and willing to find them homes... I certainly have no more room xD  

Sounds familiar....hmmm.... Lol. Going to find out if my uncle wants any chicks then after these hatch. Course we might be moving up to State College area here in the next few months. That is where my uncle lives to. Anyhow off subject, hope you find room for those chicks!

So when do we candle the eggs?

The first candle is day 7 to check for air cell development.

You can often see veins and the embryo at day 5. I is possible to see at day 3. Before that, the embryo looks bigger.

My final batch of eggs arrived today I ordered these english orpingtons a while back my heart sank when I saw the package.




What do I do?????

Check the air cells. and let them sit for a bit before you put them in the bator. You should be able to file an insurance claim on them. I believe all the ebay/paypal priority packages come with $50 of "free" insurance.

Well it's official. My first ever set is on it's way to hopefully some really cute fluffy buts in about three weeks. Looking forward to soaking up as much info along they way as I can.

I will update pictures every week so you all can see them grow and change. Two of the kittens have white on their bellies and some on their feet/legs. The one is a dark gray with only a small patch of white on chest and between back legs. The one kitten has kind of a white frosting over its back. I know there is a long haired tom running around. I think he got to her before I knew she was in heat.. :/ I will post some more pics of the kittens later. BTW, mom is doing great!
