Beekissed says that ff equals less poop.
It probably does... never thought of that.
do you have a friend or neighbor who would raise them and you could help with feed and butchering? Thats what I am doing. My mom raises the meat birds and me and another neighbor help pay for feed, and when slaughtering day comes we all help with the processing and then we split up the meat when it is all said and done, and i don't need to have the meat birds on my property at all (until they are in my freezer that is) it is a great way to do it if you don't have the physical space/time to deal with poop.
No all my neighbors are prudes and 99% of my friends live in my home state. I don't make friends easily lol. But great idea

So my Pre-HAL is not showing any signs of hatching. Today is day 23. Many showed good developement pre lock down... I am using the LG Still air incubator. All hand turned :(

Oh I almost forgot! Remember those goose eggs I snagged from my mom's house while I was house sitting? I have 5 out of 8 developing and the ones that were clear actually did have early quitters in there two very early and one that was about 3/4 of an inch long. the photo is from april 8th,(so 7 days on incubation) and there are two batches set, some from late march and some from early april. My mom is shocked, the majority of these geese are very old! i think the youngest one is one I hatched 5 or 6 years ago! the others were ones that someone was giving away because he had a terminal illness and didn't want his geese to go uncared for

it was heartbreaking, but his geese do have a great home now. Anyways pretty excited for goslings! I am putting another 8 in an incubator today, and my mom has another 8 that we have no idea what to do with because all my other incubators are full!

Awwe!! I have had this happen too, but I I have had extreme late hatchers in the past also! I made sure to stop turning 4-5 days prior letting them sit on a slight angle but still upright in a carton, the angle being which ever way the egg rolls and stays at(automatic weighting due to hatching position so chicks have better chance to pip internally and breath once external pip so they aren't smothered by the ground) since chicks in shipped eggs sometimes have problems getting into the right hatching position. I do this so they have a better chance of moving into proper position and piping! another thing I do is check eggs that are over do or have no signs of hatching to see if they have internally pipped, you can do it with a flash light and will hear a kind of light tick, tick, tick noise of them breathing! the only other thing I can think of is to make sure your temp and humidity is right and to keep them in for another day or two. I know this might not help much but if it helps you at all either now or for the future I'm glad! Crossing my fingers and hoping the best for you! Sending good hatching vibes

Today is day 19 for my eggs and I'm hoping to get a hatching video up here if I can. This will be my first hatch ever! I'm itching to see them hatch

LOLOL! I know!!! it's sooo exciting! especially your first hatch! I sometimes watch hatching in my bator if I have time! Unzipping is my favourite! it can take hours or it could take 5 mins or less! I find it soo amazing and exciting to see them hatch! I think that putting a video cam up to catch the action is a fantastic idea! I know how you feel though! waiting for them to hatch! the anticipation is nerve racking and nail biting but all worth it when they finally do! Hoping you have a good hatch!!

P.S I may steal that idea and put my own hatch cam up tn for my JG's hatching! have been wanting to for a while and your post reminded me!
I think JG's and goose eggs are the worst! some hatch on day 21 or 28 and others may take 1-3 days and geese sometimes even 4 days longer!
always makes me wanna peek in the shell and be like "are you coming out or whattt???" but you can only sit and wait for your answer!

But if you take a video post it! or at least part of it and let us know how your hatch goes! good luck and Happy Hatching!! I'm crossing my fingers for you and your little ones!

Guess who just got 9 guinea eggs given to her??? This girl right here!

My son's teacher killed a fox this morning, unfortunately a week too late (lost 2 guineas and a few chickens to the fox). He posted on a local facebook chicken page (pet chickens of virginia) asking if anyone wanted the fox, and since I know how to braintan hides, I told him I'd take it. He knew I'd been wanting guinea eggs to hatch (I mentioned it a month or two ago), so when I went to his house to pick up the fox, he gave me an egg carton with 9 guinea eggs in it! Of course I had told him I didn't have any room for them in my bator, but I ended up bringing them home anyway

So I stuffed 'em in there...it's a very tight fit, but they're in!

Sigh. I wish I had a hatcher. Can I make one???? The first few chicks that hatch are going to be stepping all over eggs...there's not an inch of free space in the incubator!
