ok yall, so i got my incubator going and i been trying to regulate.. so far im at temp 102 ..humidity 54%.. how do i get the temp down without losing the humidity ? what levels do you all use for temp and humidity .. o and im using a 25 watt bulb.. we poked holes in the styrofoam to help lower the temp ( it was 106) .. btw a friend of ours has gathered me 7 eggs from his chickens..theres some mottled and blue cochin eggs(4) and 1 pheonix, and 2 more im not sure what he got ( i know hes got some game bantams of sorts and polish - prob some of that) .. so i am excited.. my 13 yr old son is especially excited about the pheonix egg he hopes it hatches and he hopes its a roo..lol.. he has claimed it already. so i gotta fix my incubator.. lol.. help please!!

The secret to humidity is surface area of the water. You can have a gallon of water with a 1" surface area of water and say only get 30% humidity but have a cup of water with 5 " of surface area and get 60% humidity. It is all about the surface area for evaporation. As far as temp goes another hole might do the trick ( You can always tape up holes not needed to control heat and humidity) or a small fan like a computer far could do the trick if you do not have one in there already.

Edited to add: Another option is using a lower wattage bulb or smaller bulb, not sure if they make one smaller than 25 watts.

Somebody please stop me from buying eggs! Lmbo my warm up hatch is going to be larger than my easter one. Oh well. If all holds out I will still be hatching EE Bantams and some CCL for easter. Of course it has to be blue and green eggs right? ;)

I'm having the same problem... I just wanna keep on buying eggs and hatching them! But it is so much fun!!!!

i read somewhere to spray water in with a spray bottle ( like a mist) so i just did that as well as poking a few more holes ( maybe too many if so ill tape back up) lol but it bounced that humidity right up to 73% and brougt the temp down to 94..i dont really have room for a bigger water container ( unless i rig something maybe under the lightbulb :/..hmm) im told temp should be 99.5 then i seen on youtube 97-101.with humidity of 55-70 .. ?

Is that humidity without adding water?? I have better hatches using no water . A fan will decrease temps and increase drying rates. 102 isnt too bad-- is this with a fan? is the temp measued on top of the eggs??

no its with water.. so if i dont add water i will not need to measure humidity ? there is no fan in there.. that was our next debate between the hubby and self was a fan.lol. the thermometer is mounted to the side of cooler opposite side of light slightly above what will be egg level.. im kinda wondering is the whole idea just keep the egg warm ? lol.. i may add another incubator one with added humidity and one without and see what the diff in the end result is .. that would take it a step further.. ( this is also a science project for my kids..)
