Yes I did! That's why I say..pretty nice birds to look at out there. I am finally keeping a cockerel that I hatched. I hope he becomes beautiful..poor thing..at age 2 and a half months, he's all legs and a loong neck. RIR boy. I've seen some pretty ones..hope he gets a lot of black in his tail.

DH just said that for the hatch-a-long I should set all Belgian D'uccle. So looks like I might not set as many as I was originally planning, but I won't be turning by hand since in 10 days time I can only collect like 30 eggs from those 3 ladies at the max and 40 eggs fit in my turner.

He also said that I should continuously hatch until it gets too warm and humid

He might take that back in the morning when he does the chicken math.

I figure I could hatch a full turner every 3 weeks until the end of June. Let's see, that would be like..... 120 eggs

that is if I use the turner and set only every 3 weeks. If he lets me buy a dedicated hatcher, or builds me one, I could set and hatch every week! .......Somebody stop me!

Caveat is that I have to sell the grown birds (who are only a year old) to make room for ones I'll keep (cause inevitably I keep some that I hatch as a part of my Rainbow Layer project and I cause I fall in love with cute fuzzy things easily).

Quote: 100 % intact and growing as we speak from what I hear. They are in a classroom right now. Double boxing is the best..I just didn't have a box that would fit all of the eggs and fit in the bigger box. The best part is my husband does remodeling so he gets gobs of bubble wrap from unpacking kitchens and bathrooms.

Quote: LOVE THIS PIC!! I have the tank top, I need a tee!

I currently have my 'bator stuffed full, so much so that I had to remove the auto turner. This is the first hatch without it and I'm finding that I rather like having to fuss with the eggs 3 times a day. It satisfies my desire to fiddle with stuff in a productive way. We're on day 5, so no telling how fertility was yet this batch. It was awfully cold while I was collecting this bunch. But if the level is good for this hatch, that will signal good things for subsequent batches since the weather took a turn directly at spring in the last few days and it's not looking back

Good morning!! I am building a new breeder/ grow out pen. I bought some rough cut pine yesterday. 1x8x16 are 6 bucks a piece:woot . And 2x4x16 are the same! These are real sizes not like normal lumber. I can see many projects coming from rough cut. He even said how to treat it. Use old motor oil . Brush on and it soaks it up. Makes it last forever if used once a year till it quits soaking it up, then your done treating it. ( I believe it is better than chemicals used to treat lumber) I am going to try it anyways. Have a great day everyone!
