Bator is ready! Setting duck eggs (mutts of unknown breeding) at noon today!I wasn't going to set ducks, but just this past week my bunch started laying. This will be my first time hatching ducks. Hopefully I have better luck with them, then I do turkeys.![]()
I'm so sorry about your hen. Raccoons and Owls typically take the head. It is odd that it would be mid day. From personal experience, I can tell you that foxes and bobcats leave no trace, not even feathers - just *poof* gone. I lost my favorite hen to a bobcat.Unfortunately I have to agree. Rough day, started off with my LGD getting skunked. I was not too successful at washing her. She doesn't smell much better, and I snow smell like skunk! I did use the peroxide dish soap baking soda method.
Something mid day got our gorgeous black Orp pullet (fat Betty). I'm absolutely sick about it. Ripped her head and neck off, left her body. Our first thought is raccoon...but mid day? DH set the have a heart trap. Also took a shot at a fox out in the back field. Such a bummer. But....tomorrow is another day.
Well, I do believe this is a first!!!! It's a bird, so I say YES!I am planning on incubating a few of our chicken eggs, as few as I can.... a couple silver pheasant eggs and also a few call duck eggs for the hatch-along.
But guess what...? My Goffins cockatoos AND my African Grey parrots decided to join inThey layed eggs with perfect timing to hatch the day before Easter!
So..these moms will be doing their own incubating...Are these eggs allowed to be counted once we are counting?
Go babies!Left for work yesterday and had a single pip when I got home I had 9 pips fell asleep woke up to see 3 hatch in 5 minutes and by the time I woke up again this morning there were 10 Woo hoo and now there is one more I still have 4 more pips Pretty sure the 7 left were some from a batch that I started in a cooler and then moved to the redwood as soon as I got it so theycould be a day or two behind I have about 36 that are the same story so I could get another 50 yet woohoo Go babies go

I hope it comes in time! If not, you can still set for up to 2 days later and still have it count. (but you'll have to watch chicks hatch when you have to wait)There is a big crack in my incubator but luckily the place I bought if from is going to replace it, I have it less than a month. Hopefully it will be here before next Saturday so my eggs will be started on time for the Easter hatch-a-long.
I don't know anything about that incubator, but welcome to the hatch! So I wasn't going to hatch this year, we have our chicks that are almost 5 weeks old and all is well. Then this thread.... so I ordered some eggs (Shipped out Monday so they should get here in time right?) and a small incubator. Only it gets here and I notice the instructions say it blinks and plays a song.... What the WHAT?
This thing:
Why does it need to blink and play a song?
I think I messed up. As it is the hatch rate of shipped eggs is lower right? I am thinking we might not get any to hatch with this thing! It doesn't track humidity so is there something I can get to put in there to see that? -sigh-
Been there, done that with my family when I was a child. It was usually at Christmas though.Last year's was March 31st...my birthday, my son's birthday, Easter & Hatching chicks. Best part of that day...Easter dinner family feud, ending up with myself running out crying, dragging my kids out behind me, we had mac-n-cheese & chicken tenders for dinner....Good Times..NOT! Really praying things are a bit more peaceful this year!![]()
