Congratulations!Woo hoo! DH woke me up at 5, we have a little EE chick! Our very first to hatch!
Hooray for 17 chicks! My test hatch is done, although I'll keep the bator on today for the few eggs that didn't hatch. I have 17 happy chicks, 62% - not the best but so much better than the last time. Easter hatch will be even better I hope.![]()
The last chick out measured a 20% weight loss on day 18, so I guess even a tight squeeze can make it. I am constantly amazed at the resiliency of birth!
That emu is wonderful! I dread to think how big it will be when grown. I'm beginning to wonder where all my chicks are going to live, but an emu? or two or three? Congratulations!
@Happy Chooks We have Guineas in the Hatch!I have put some Guinea eggs in. Had hard time finding nest., but got them in on the 23 rd.
Yes, it sounds like both of you could use some rest.He is home from school today. I'm not excited about him missing today due to them starting the PSSA's today but, his ankle and foot are really swollen and we spent most of the night in the ER. So he would be in no shape for the testing today anyhow. Gotta call the Orthopedic Dr Herr in a little bit. Funny thing is I have known this Dr since I was a kid even before he had to set and cast my arm after it was broken in elementary school. Boy did I just age that poor DR. Lol Thanks for the concern. I won't be on here as much for a little while, need some more sleep myself....![]()

Wow, that's a boatload of eggs!
Welcome! There's no set number on hatching - just hatch what you want to hatch!I want in! I don't have many, but I'd love to hatch a few with you all!
Quote:I'm struggling with this myself.![]()
First hatch of the year is in lockdown!12 d'Uccle Mille Fleurs, 9 Ameraucana/Araucana bantam, 2 from Delilah my micro bantie frizzle, 2 from one of my most favorite backyard cross banties crossed with my d'Uccle roo, and 26 backyard cross banties! All of them candled on day 14 are still in. Just saw a little rocking in there. So excited for fluffy butts. Candled the before setting to check on size of the air sacs and I think I saw at least one of the chicks trying really hard to internally pip! Anyone ever seen that before? It was so awesome!
C'mon Chickies!![]()
You have plenty to share Linda! Great find on the BCM's!Boy, I hate popping in during an AWWWW session or when something fantastic happens, because it makes me feel silly when I have a bit of nothing much to share!![]()
Ummm... I scored a local source for gorgeous BCM eggs and will pick up/buy half a dozen this Friday. (I also gave a BYC "business card" to the source folks because at least one of that couple really belongs in BYC!)
That makes two breeds I am hoping to hatch: Black Copper Marans and Penedesenca!
Luckily, two flock hens (Grace, a bantam EE and one of the Penelopes which are BCM/Silkie mixes given to me as chicks more than a year ago) have decided they want to sit on ALL the eggs laid in two bucket nests. I can put some of the BCM and Pene eggs under each AND Sparkle the House Silkie, who went broody a few days ago.

Just set the eggs. After set day, we will be asking for the total number of eggs set.Ok so I set some WH duck eggs...do I need to do anything else as part of the hatch-a-long? Plan on setting some banty cochins on the 29th as well![]()
Welcome! Sounds like you'll have that bator FULL!Okay, I am most definitely in this year! I'm not sure how many eggs or just what I'll be hatching, but I know there will be bantam cochins involved, and probably easter eggers and brahmas, and I volunteered to help a friend who is incubator-less out and hatch something for her (not sure what they are yet) so I'll surely have something! At this rate I won't be able to say how many I'm setting until the set date!
Good morning! It's monday morning here in Norway, and I with you all a great day!
I didnt get to set my eggs as planned last night. My incubator has stabilized on 37,3C, when it's supposed to be 37,5-37,8I have no idea what to do about it. Tried turning up the heat in the room to see if that could help. Fingers crossed now![]()
Hope you figure out the incubator issues.![]()
Awww man, don't ya just love it when they do that to you? Boys have interesting ways of ending up in the ER. I hope everything goes well with the Dr.Just got back from the ER. My son came home from a birthday party in Baltimore, it was a roller skating party, anyhow he injured his ankle. It was really swelled up so we decided it was best to get it checked. Dr said possible fracture, have to get ahold of the orthopedics in the morning. Ugh..... Not at all what I had planned to do tonight..
