OK too much late night caffeine is being blamed for the following ramble but I am just too curious to know if anyone else gets a charge out of this idea.

You know one of these years wouldn't it be great to coordinate a Grand Egg Road Trip. It would be laid out kind of like how the Olympic torch is passed along but it will make a loop. Participants can be drivers or egg donators. You definitely would have to donate some kind of service or goods to be a recipient of eggs. And hook up major sponsors like TSC and Brinsea and others with Poultry stuff. Shoot, see if National Geographic would film the journey! Make it so big that it sets a record for something NEVER done before! Get some of these handyman engineers to trick out a trailer to hold the eggs at the optimum temperatures and a system to prevent jarring (like maybe hammocks) That way they don' have to be unloaded from one vehicle to the next, just hitched to a new one at the tag point. And you could hold more eggs that way......YEEESSSS!

Good morning everyone!! Have a great day today. I am off to work early so I can leave early to come home and have my NPIP recertification done again. :)

I'd love to see pictures of your flock.

Welcome!

Thankyou! There are some photos in the album, I think the link is in my signature :)

haha feel free to "use" my set up to convince your husband. I am sure I will use someone else's coop set ups to convince MY husband to get more coops. lol

But for real- I want to see some "egg room" photos! I need organization inspiration!

I second this - would love to see how others organize it all! My incubator is placed safely in the cellar, in my clotheswashing-room. Stable temperature and out of react for the kids! Also out of hubbys sight, lol. Last year it was on the kitchen bench impossible not to notice - and I guess I can admit that it's no beauty haha.

That's so cool!!

So I'm new to hatching and I have a question I have a LG 9200 incubator (still air and no auto turner) So would it be a bad thing if I turned the eggs at 7am 7pm and 9pm? That would be three times daily? Any help is appreciated

I turn 4 styro bators by hand. I aim for aprox every 12 hours, so only twice per day. It works fine. If you do the schedule you are suggesting, eggs end up on 1 side for 22 hours out of 24 & the other for only 2 hours. Better just to turn twice if you can't spread the times out a bit more.

Hey ron is ur "project mgr" tag new? What ever came out of all of us putting u up for award?

Awards are done once a quarter.  Ron got the project manager one for all the work on the Daily Digest.

When next one hatching chooks?

I next Emu hatches with the rest of us, April 19th the day before Easter. Im sure another cam will be set up for us to watch.

I sooo hope I get to see the next one! Corny Caleb, you need to speak with the egg and request a more reasonable hatch time, please?

All you folks talking about stuffed cabbage and chicken soup made me hungry!  Good thing I have leftover nacho soup - so tasty on a cold day!

In the final days of collecting for hand-off eggs.  I might actually be able to fill up my incubator for the HAL with the discards, plenty of off colored eggs collected the last two days.  I have one still-air incubator I use as a hatcher -  I guess I *could* also incubate in if I wanted to hand turn eggs...I wonder how many I could fit in there...it would be an experiment, right?  Of course, I'd need more eggs...

You can fit 3 dozen + but I wouldn't recommend it with hand turning. I did it last year and hand turning was a pain in the butt. 2 dozen is okay, but I prefer no more than 18. Much easier.

Stuff it full. It will maintain temps better. I hand turn 4 batorfulls (each holding 40-100 eggs depending on egg size) in 5-10 minutes twice daily. That's even taking time to shuffle eggs to lockdown & candle a few.

My eggs were shipped today.:ya

Brahma
Phoenix
Silkie
Cochin

I am hoping mine go out tomorrow!

Packing now. Headed out this morning!

That sounds neat - you'd need to estimate the weight of the trailer/what class hitch would be needed to be a driver too. I know my CUV has a lot of restrictions a truck wouldn't have, but can pull smaller loads on the hitch. I think it would be fun to do!
