Since we're all talking about coffee, I'll share my absolute favorite way to drink it:
12 oz of your favorite coffee
1 Tbs. butter
1 Tbs. coconut oil
1-3 tsp. honey (leave out if you prefer no sweetener in your coffee)
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Throw it all in a blender, and blend for about 20-30 seconds. It will get foamy on top like a cappuccino. Mmmmm. :drool

I would have never thought to get a tetanus shot for a chicken bite. My Buff Orpingtons always bite my fingers and peck at my shoes and clothes. I've had gloves on all winter dealing with them, but come warmer weather, I might end up with a bunch in freezer camp if they persist.

Sally!

Check the research--All eggs have a higher hatch rate when hatched upright. The Pros do it this way for a reason, more chicks hatch.

McMurray Hatchery, Myeres and etc will incubate on the side and them move them to hatch with the big end up.

We often work with stuff we find on the Internet instead of reading the results of Poultry Studies. There is a lot of mis information on the internet.

I prefer the scientific studies over the anecdotal evidence.
I've been buying the textbooks whenever I can afford them.

LOL if anyone has read and done her homework it would be me Ron! ha ha ha you have no idea how much time I have on google scholar my friend I wont take info from anything but researched articles.

What your saying is opposite of everything I am reading, I read that most commercial hatcheries lay them down? and they strive for the best trays to allow incuabtion upright and laying down for hatch. not sure I got you on this one, so hook me up with some good reads please!

I dont think I have seen one upright yet when reading abstracts trials and studies. I dont read heresay, I only read abstracts trials and such. Thats why I put info into the article because of so much heresay. so help me out here please.
They lay them down for 18 days and then move them to a dedicated hatcher and put them big end up.

Seriously though, we are talking about hatch rates being better so why quibble about 1 or two more chicks per hatch. For thousands stuff like that makes a big difference.

So I wasn't going to hatch this year, we have our chicks that are almost 5 weeks old and all is well. Then this thread.... so I ordered some eggs (Shipped out Monday so they should get here in time right?) and a small incubator. Only it gets here and I notice the instructions say it blinks and plays a song.... What the WHAT? This thing: Why does it need to blink and play a song? I think I messed up. As it is the hatch rate of shipped eggs is lower right? I am thinking we might not get any to hatch with this thing! It doesn't track humidity so is there something I can get to put in there to see that? -sigh-
I got one of those last summer it killed all the chicks 2 days before they where going to hatch the temp went up and than that stupid thing die I got it on ebay I let the person know it killed my eggs and the thing was junk.

you know me well enough to know that! I search for the truth is all! I am not seeing what your saying, I have not run into what your saying and realize that I could be missing something. I dont like misinforming anyone, but I need proof of everything, most will tell you that is my way.

It is kind of like, one person sleeps on the left side of the bed and another sleeps on the right. It is a preference.

I do not have problems with chicks pipping at the wrong end. That is usually an indication that something is wrong with the chick--inbreeding and such. Also, I am taking the strong survive and will make the breed stronger approach.

I do not help them so if they pip the wrong end and do not get out then they were not meant to get out. One reason for this is the breeder I am hatching for does not want chicks like that.
