It is kind of like, one person sleeps on the left side of the bed and another sleeps on the right. It is a preference.

I do not have problems with chicks pipping at the wrong end. That is usually an indication that something is wrong with the chick--inbreeding and such. Also, I am taking the strong survive and will make the breed stronger approach.

I do not help them so if they pip the wrong end and do not get out then they were not meant to get out. One reason for this is the breeder I am hatching for does not want chicks like that.

My last hatch, I hatched them in egg cartons, because I didn't have space to lay them down. 29 out of 33 hatched with no problems. The 4 that didn't hatch were all malpositioned, and didn't pip at all (one was upside down, the others had their heads in the wrong place).

So cute! My doe's going to wait until the middle of tonight to kid, when it's 8 degrees and snowing. I just know it. Why? Because she's a goat. lol

I think if you just wash it and put neosporin (if you have any) on it you'll be fine.  If it needs it, apply ice.  Last summer, I got a worse chunk out of me taken by a full grown rooster.  He hit the main vein/artery in my wrist.  I doctored it myself and I'm still alive with a fully functioning hand.

Ouch, that sounds bad! Thanks for the tip, I disinfected it and hope that does the trick. I have so many other health issues that I don't want to take any chances, but I don't feel like going to the dr right now as it's 10:00 PM in Norway. The neosporin will have to do

If you are regularly around places that could have tetanus you should get a shot at some time. There have been some bad cases of it in the US recently--It's one of those rare illnesses that Docs do not easily recognize anymore.

Also, Tetanus thrives around horses as does certain staph. If you live with or work around horses at all, you should be up on your tetanus vaccinations as well as any other animals living around horses....
