Well, it wasn't how I pack eggs, but it was a large box, lots of stacked egg crates in there, bubble wrap at the top, and the eggs were bubble wrapped and sandwiched between two egg crates. What looks like happened is the box got handled "somewhat less than gently", I think the layers jostled enough to allow the two egg cartons to separate just enough that a few of the eggs came out of their spots and got flung about .
Like I said, the dozen actually were in better shape than many other eggs I've received that did stay in their places, smashed one, crushed the top of another.
The seller is great, though, offered right away to send another dozen. We'll see what happens with the first dozen, they may or may not be viable. I don't see broken yolks, only one had a teeny tiny floating bubble in it. I'll let them rest, try to get the partial detachments to stick back down. We'll see.
