The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well, it wasn't how I pack eggs, but it was a large box, lots of stacked egg crates in there, bubble wrap at the top, and the eggs were bubble wrapped and sandwiched between two egg crates. What looks like happened is the box got handled "somewhat less than gently", I think the layers jostled enough to allow the two egg cartons to separate just enough that a few of the eggs came out of their spots and got flung about .

Like I said, the dozen actually were in better shape than many other eggs I've received that did stay in their places, smashed one, crushed the top of another.

The seller is great, though, offered right away to send another dozen. We'll see what happens with the first dozen, they may or may not be viable. I don't see broken yolks, only one had a teeny tiny floating bubble in it. I'll let them rest, try to get the partial detachments to stick back down. We'll see.

Does anyone know what day to candle Turkey eggs?
I candled mine on the 6th day with a high intensity candler and I could see which ones were developing and one that wasnt. HOWEVER i put them all back int he incubator and I am going to check again in a few days. I don't toss any clear looking eggs until around day 10 or so for light light eggs and much later for dark eggs(i know I shouldn't have because they are very sensitive the first week, I am just too impatient)

Eggs are set!

(Sorry a little early, but didn't want to wait much longer on the shipped eggs.) And while I was setting I noticed the first pip in the batch in the hatcher! Double

Congratulations on the hatch! You want to share how many and what you set for the hatch a long?

Welcome! Do you have any pictures of Arubian Jungle Fowl?

Good Morning to all and off I go to work. Moved 68 eggs to hatchers last night, Dominiques, Silkies, RIR, and local mixed breeds that lay beautiful blue, olive, and dark brown eggs.

I expect to be setting eggs from my own flock, as well as some shipped Polish, Naked Neck, Speckled Sussex, and White Leghorn eggs, and if they arrive in time, some Swedish Flower Hen eggs - I have a neighbor who has been yearning for some SFH, so I thought I'd see if I can get some to hatch for her. I just hatched a couple of Polish and a NN from the seller who is sending me more eggs, and I confess, I always thought NN were singularly unattractive, but they make incredibly cute chicks, like something out of Dr. Seuss!

Hi there,

No, I dont have pictures of the Arubian jungle fowls right now, but i can take some, they are mostly specled, brown, black and some gray in color my specled is the most beautiful of them all
I'd love to see some pictures of Arubian jungle fowl, of any photos have Aruba for that matter.

I candle turkeys between day 10 and 14.

Basically the same as chickens - thank you!

Is there a grace period for setting eggs or does it have to be tomorrow at noon? Wanting to set mine today as some are getting a bit on the older side...
