Oh congratulations! I want to see pics please?

If it's not too late, I'm setting 30 eggs right now.
25 pure black Penedesenca.
2 Jaerhon X blk pene
3 Ameraucana X blk pene

Just too much going on here to be on time.
Not to mention, the wife went on a cleaning spree yesterday and took all the eggs that I had sorted by pedigree and mixed them up in the refrigerator egg bin. So, I had to start collecting all over.
~~Thanks dear.
Further issues are that the newer eggs were in the nests overnight when it got down to 28. Always an experiment.
Found a floor egg (penedesenca) so 31 total eggs set. I know I shouldn't set a floor egg but I'm short of eggs.
I'll post a pic soon.

Just set 34 eggs in the incubator.....

Todays plans: Go to DD's volleyball game and then out to dinner with a nice $100.00 gift card we got from hubby's boss. Stress free birthday..the best!

Thank You for posting this. I had no idea! This actually helps a mental dilemma I was having. I traced aircells last night, and the cells that started huge from detaching (saddles) hadn't grown at all, so I know my humidity is high, but I was happy because I don't really want them to grow too much, I think? The normal cells had grown a little bit, but I was worried humidity may be TOO high for them. I think I will start cooling/misting the normal eggs, and leave the others be. For now at least.

Thanks Everyone for the Birthday Wishes!

My set number went down to 5. :th I opened the door to the coop this morning at 6 to let everyone out and then I went back to check on my broody hen at about 9:30 to see if she had left the nest to eat anything. When I got outside I saw feathers everywhere but not blood. I couldn't figure out what happened because everyone was out there that should have been. I went to the coop after the outside head count to check on my hen and something had gotten her and in the process crushed 5 eggs. I grabbed the other five and they were cold. I decided to bring them inside and put them in the incubator even though I don't have much hope that they'll make it. After bringing the eggs inside, I went back outside to clean up the mess in the coop and put all the chickens back in the coop, but when I got there I saw more feathers. I looked around to see who it was this time and in the back of the field behind my house I saw a fox reach the wood line with my favorite rooster in his mouth. :hit

Heartbreaking. I am so sorry.

I'm hoping it doesn't come back, but I know it probably will so I have both my chickens and ducks under lock and key! I really hope her eggs see had left are okay, but since the low was 40F this morning I'm not thinking they'll make it.

So sorry for your loss :( I lost five this year to what I believe was a particularly sly fox. Never did catch it but did finally deter it enough to prevent more losses. Maybe it went your way, where are you in NC? I hope the eggs make it!!
