OH do I just wish I was hatching with you all right now! just the excitement of hatching with others!!!

I decided to brainstorm some for sure plans for upcoming summers:

-start my breeding program with my sexlink and Japanese bantams
-have my best friend come down for 21 days next summer to hatch chicks with me
-start building my brooder and new breeding pens

im so excited. we had out first feelings of the 70s since spring popped around!

How are all of you doing with your egg progress so far?

Yes, it takes longer for an incubator to warm up with more eggs in it. As long as the incubator was stable for temps before adding eggs, it will stabalize.

A sponge will feel cool because evaporation caused cooling. It would not cool down the eggs though.

re arrange the eggs every couple of days to even out any cool or hot spots in the incubator.

I tend to run my still air bators at 102F at the top of the bigger eggs & try to rotate eggs around the bator every few days to avoid leaving any eggs in the cold spots for very long.

THANK YOU BOTH!!!!

I was so egg-cited (sorry, can't help myself) when I set my eggs yesterday I forgot to check in!

I set 41 eggs in my new HovaBator 1588. The breakdown is:

7 marans
9 english orps, including BB splash, spangled, cuckoo, gold laced)
15 salmon faverolles
5 wheaten Ameraucana
2 easter eggers

I am so excited I can hardly stand it! This is my 5th time incubating, but the first time I actually get to keep some hens!
Here's a pic. The IncuView belongs to my chicken partner-in-crime Jbher!!

Nice collection of eggs!

Ive set 15 copper black and copper blue maran eggs to hatch! This is my first ever hatch along how exciting!!!!

How would she feed that many?

PM me if you didn't get this sorted out & I'll see if I can walk you through it. I wasn't on much yesterday. I was too busy puking.

Ugh, hope you feel better soon!

Oh my gosh, I am cracking up right now, I have an unused mailbox on my porch (it turned out not to fit on the current mail post and I am not redoing it until there isn't any snow) and when I went to move it one of my california whites flew out of it and left this egg behind! haha "special delivery"
That is hilarious!

This is a chick that I incubated that hatched at 3am today and it's one of the eggs from my hen and rooster that was attacked by the fox today
Awwww, a new life from the lost life.

What a day and now I need to play catch up!!

Had to run Little one to urgent care and they sent him to ER for IV and tests for possible appendicitis, Thank GOD for test results showing not an appendix issue, he was sent home with unknown illness and with antibiotics and a check up tomorrow, is labs were bad, white bloods up and a ton of other things. Still high fevers but at least the motrin brings it down. I am not sure the hospital was a good deal or a bad, look how dirty that place is, I dont feel like I need to clean my house now! Good grief, this was our room at entrance in the ER Pediatrics!!! see image below!

We finally brought him home to rest and I checked that egg I posted the video of is pipped YAY for that at least, image below. I never got to the post office to mail the chicks out

4:30 was the last call for express mail!

And then I opened my mail and LOW AND BEHOLD there is my SPOT CHECK!
It doesnt work and we opened it and the battery is corroded to the point of RUSTING as is the internals on the spot check! NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!
I pray the day ends better than it has started! Now off to get to my messages and then read a zillion threads to catch up!
Sorry about your rough day Sally. I hope tomorrow is a much better day!

My first hatch was this weekend. Disappointing, but the weather for the eggs was cold, I'm sure that hurt them. Still around 50%.
My first baby rabbits all came out of the nest box over the weekend, too. Only 3, but a start.
Eggs set for the next 3 weekends, more rabbits due the middle of April, plus it's time to start the garden.
Going to be hard to even attempt to keep up with this thread!
I posted on the PA thread in regards to hatch, also did you take pics of the bunnies? I cant keep track, too many threads right now! but congrats! three is a good number!

I've been warning people for a while about Brinseas.. had a bunch of them and every one had issues
Sorry you lost all those eggs.. but I can feel your pain.. I had one that kept rising in temp well over 120 and still rising.. they reside at the dump now
People tend to forget that Brinsea is in the market to sell incubators.. they are not a hatchery.. so they really don't care about your hatch rates or if their products have problems or design flaws.. so long as they make a profit they're happy.....

I love my coolerbators!
X200000000000000000000000000000 @yinepu did you see the Cabinet Coolerbator we made? Its awesome and cheap! love it so much I just ordered two more coolers, another bator and one hatcher!!

Also was going to message you about tips for hatching call duck eggs! did you make an article for that size duck?

Is it too late to join in? Just received my eggs today. I'm going to set them tonight.

I'm hoping it doesn't come back, but I know it probably will so I have both my chickens and ducks under lock and key! I really hope her eggs see had left are okay, but since the low was 40F this morning I'm not thinking they'll make it.
so sorry :(

wild turkeys in my front yard right now!

HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW COOOOL!!

Oh Sally! That is just horrible. An ER room looking like that? I know you will do this..but, will just put it out there. If that little one's fever isn't doing any better by morning..well, let's just say this, you know where NOT to take him. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. If that baby is feeling worse tonight, I would even take him back tonight..somewhere else.
And, when it rains, it pours. Bless your heart. That's an old lady saying, and I say it because I'm an old lady.

And I mean it.
yes it was gross, the staff was amazing though! but the room was NOT even remotely clean, to the point of discust, what are they thinking? surely at some point those floors and walls should get cleaned not? its a hospital!! I was going to send the image to the hospital but not sure who to signal out! ha ha ha Just gross gross gross gross....

You know we were at a brand new urgent care first this morning, of course it was clean and spotless, I was sitting in the waiting room and there was a man with a baby in a carseat, like 6 month or smaller baby, the babyes hands were black with filth the car seat was absolutely discussting and I couldnt believe my eyes, SERIOUSLY thinking I wish I could steal those kids and raise them on my own. Like its so hard to wash the car seat plastic? and the seat covers, even a pain to remove ARE WASHABLE and the child himself, was so sweet I wanted to grab and snuggle him. I know all are not raised like I know it should be so, but so sad for the innocent. I am not talking mild dirt here, I am talking nastyness, worse than the inside of a commercial trash can bad.

I'm late letting everyone know how many eggs I set I'm sorry! I set 12 wheaten/blue wheaten ams 19 silver appleyard ducks 7 mille fleur d'uccles 5 black east indie ducks and 10 mille fleur bantam cochins sooooooo 53 total :)

Hi Sally! This is upsetting. Of course, we will provide a refund. This being said, we do get them on a weekly basis DIRECTLY from Brinsea as their facilities are only a couple of miles from us. So we don't stock them longer one week. My guess is that they were stored in a humid area at the Brinsea warehouse. So if you do orders those again - from wherever you purchase them from, I would recommend having the batteries checked. This is today the second complaint about the Spotcheck. So obviously, we got a bad batch from Brinsea. I do apologize for this, and we will provide a refund straight away ... Again, we are sorry about all the inconvenience this caused .

At least I get my money back..... so that said..... what will I try out now! LOL

Last night when I got home, I found one of my buff leghorns siting on the nest! Waited until this afternoon for confirmation.... She is now sitting on 10 eggs.

it isn't registering a temperature, not in the incubator, not on my, nothing. even replaced the batteries but it didn't fix it. so far I have had the best luck with just getting several cheapo thermometers and using two at once. i assumed i would get better results if i spent a bit more but I guess not :p
