Day 9, I know, I know, wait until day 10!!

Anyway, on day 10, one should see air sacks. Will there be no veining? Or should I see veining as well?

Ok, so I was having major issues with my bator and the eggs in it...i may have put a few too many in there
cool.png
. Besides the temps on the top of the eggs varying by as much as 2 degrees (the eggs around the outside perimeter cooler than the eggs in the center, and the bantam eggs are smaller so they were cooler as well), and the fact that I couldn't stop some of the eggs from tilting the wrong way (laying on their sides...some kept going fat end down) I improvised and did this: I cut some pieces off of a cardboard egg flat and put the pieces around the edges of the inside of the bator, that way I could lay the eggs in at an angle...then the next layer of eggs, etc. It worked! No eggs tilting fat end down :)

AND, since I had to rearrange some eggs, I went ahead and candled...had to take them out of the bator anyway, so candled each one before putting it back in. I'm so excited, cuz so far every single bantam egg (serama, old english game bantam, silkie, silkie/polish cross, mille fleur) has obvious embryotic development!!! Woohooo!!!

I'm hoping to put some wheat marans in the incubator in the next few days, though i'm experimenting with my first broody hen and have put a bantam egg under her as I think she will get a little upset when her rock and 2 fir cones don't hatch. lol

Can I still join in? Got permission late from my better half so eggs and incubators were not in on time. I am setting eggs in my mini Brinsea tomorrow and my Brinsea 20 egg Octagon on Thursday. I chose Brinsea since I am a novice at this and probably not going to do it again and sell the incubators afterwards. Have promised wife that I will give away all chicks but 2. Hopefully she will change her mind when she sees the pretty chicks. (Insha' Allah)

Was surprised to find out that Brinsea does not have a built in humidity monitor so I have just ordered an Acurite today. Don't know if it will fit in the mini Brinsea.

Since I got permission late from wify, I bought eggs from Whole Foods for the mini Brinsea. They are all brown and speckled, Does it matter if I use larger one of those or if their shape is rounder vs Oval?. Their pack dates are March 22nd, hopefully they are not too old.I will use 5 of these eggs. if my Cream Legbar eggs arrive by tomorrow, I will use 2 of those as well in the mini for a total of seven.

If the Octagon arrives by tomorrow as well as the CCL eggs and chocolate Wyandotte eggs, I will have 10 CCL and 8 Chocolate Wyandotte eggs to place in it plus 2 left over Whole Foods eggs.

Brinsea says to keep humidity at 40-50% till lockdown and increase to 65-80% during lockdown. Any comments/experience?
I am setting egg turning every 3 hrs at a 90 degree angle.
Brinsea also has an option for cool off every day. Supposedly increases the hatchability. Any comments experiences? I was thinking of putting the cool off at 30 minutes every 24 hrs till lockdown since thats probably the amount of time a broody takes to eat and poo and go back to her nest.

Thanks all in advance for your comment/suggestions.

Feel free to join us. I do 30% in the first 18 days and 55-60 the last 3 days. I'm a laid back hatcher though, I rarely even look at humidity the first 18 days - don't even put a hygrometer in. I put it in at lockdown and raise the humidity.

I don't have the cool down feature on my brinsea.

We just can't count your eggs for the contest due to timing. We gave a +/- 2 day time frame.

Would today be a good day to let my family and friends know how many eggs I have in the incubator? That way they think I'm joking but when they hatch they can't say I didn't tell them!

I will definitley be using that one next year!!
SO when I was turning eggs this morn I decided to candle my duck eggs since they are so light in color. I set on Friday so today is day 4 for me. Four out of 6 are showing veining YAY! These are my ducks first eggs. I hope the other 2 duck eggs start veining also but they may have froze early in the mornings after she laid them.

Oh and my 2 little DDs 8 and 7 played an April fools trick on me. Last night before they fell asleep the closed their door mostly not all the way though. This morn when I went in to wake them up from school I opened the door and a pillow fell on my head, I was so confused lol. Both DDs woke up and said APRIL FOOLS MOM!. I about died laughing that they came up with a trick without me knowing about it. They were so cute.
At least they didn't put a bucket of water up there!

I think my eggs are fried. And not in the good way. My incubator has been running a little hot, and I've been doing my best to turn it down a little at a time. When I got home yesterday, it had shot up to 105 and who knows how long it was like that??? It was also our first 70 degree day -- and after a 35 degree night. I set the eggs early Saturday morning. If I candle them will it show if they're goners?
They will probably be OK! I wouldn't give up. They may not have been that hight very long and early spikes are not as bad as late ones...

Surely this is a joke? Didn't someone get the memo that this is sunny CA? We are supposed to be 80 degrees by the end of the week, but this morning, we have this.

We just had dusting last night, but it was all melted by morning...

Quote: Here in the Northern Foothills (On the Ridge) it is too!

What a great idea! It looks like it is working great!

This egg was laid 3 weeks ago from our Prize winning hen that laid 6 of the eggs under our broody hen. Here are her eggs that took 2nd place Black Copper Marans Eggs, 3 place over all eggs, and Champion People's Choice Eggs at the South Regional Marans Meet two weeks ago in Dripping Springs, Texas.
Those eggs are amazing!!! Do you ever sell her eggs for hatching? You said you'd in Collage Station? I'm in the San Antonio Area.

If your not planning on keeping your incubators, how much are you planning on selling them for? Although, I can't imagine having to give them up. I'm sorry. Were your eggs from whole foods marked as fertile? If not, they were probably not given access to a Rooster...
