So I have a family emergency and am flying to Colorado in the morning. I put 100 plus eggs into lock down this evening. Candled as I went they are all close to pipping internally already. Not sure how long I will be gone but will most likely miss the hatch. Leaving my kids to watch out for the chicks and also to turn the 388 eggs for Easter. Hopefully they do as they should.  This will not be a good trip. Please pray for my family.

Many prayers from Texas!! Be safe and be sure to take care of yourself!

Now I have to get me one of these.

OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SNOWY DAY...:) GOOD MORNING!
PRETTY SURE THE SNOW WILL MELT OFF AGAIN TODAY. PLEASE MELT OFF!

ShayBaby...we have a place out here called Cal-Ranch. If I recall correctly, at least I heard, that they get their chicks from Welp Hathcery. I tried looking up Naked Necks, and Turkens, didn't turn anything up..but you can give them a call. Pretty colors too. The one that is doing well is blue, with little white coming in on the wings..like tiny barr lines. Brown on the head. Maybe I should get a photo. She is in with my LF NN that I hatched.

Ha..I decided to give them a call..Welp Hatchery. They said that they don't have the NN's in bantam size. :( Not sure now where they came from.

Alrighty, this is too funny not to share. Last night I was worrued my thermometer was wrong, so I decided to go out and get a wiggler. After hitting 5 stores, I couldn't find the tube kind and had to improvise.

The only jelly filled item we found was a chicken :p Best part? The only access to take temperature is through it's butt.

sally needs one of those

Aww, she had them. And a dilute little orange, how cute. She
will probably do just fine, especially if she isn't bothered too
much. Cats are notorious for trying to hide their babies if they
get bothered too much by people wanting to handle those cute
little babies.

I know everyone stresses about temps and use all kind of thermometers. I used to use a bunch. I finally decided on two fairly accurate ones (just in case one fails). I try to keep my temps in a 99-100 range.
My thoughts, and only my thoughts, are there are micro climate all over the incubator, no matter the type. The temps will rise and fall at different times. I just go for the overall stability and rarely touch the thermostat unless there is a major issue. I figure if my chicken can hatch in a box that has the base exposed to the changing outside temp in the spring, it can't be an exact science. Just " in a range".
Likewise, I rarely do much to help chicks hatch. The strong healthy ones will do it, the weak will fail. I know it is cruel, but I can't watch all the time and my birds are going to be exposed to the elements and predators during their life, so I want strong.
I've had some with crooked toes, etc, that have shown to be excellent at survival. Show birds, no, but excellent birds none the less.
Just my way of doing it, I understand those that breed for show and certain traits, (like large crests on certain breeds, I like crests, but large ones get eaten by hawks) just not my style.
