Hi, I had thought a very annoying, poorly timed power outage which made me a day late to set had knocked me out of the game, but a P.M. from BYC's wonderful team let me know that it was okay, so mark down my 14 hatch-a-long eggs please! I have a mixture of Ameraucana (BBS and Wheaten) SBELS and Swedish Flower Hen eggs.

Since not turning might cause poor embryonic development, try two things that helps increase embryonic development.

1. Cool the eggs from today until day 18. Simply take the top off of the incubator for 1 to two hours each night.
2. mist the eggs with fresh clean water every couple of days from today until day 18. You have to be careful with that one because dirty water can cause bacteria.

3. Lower the temperature to 99 at hatch.
4. shipped eggs need to be set with the big end up in a carton (I checked my notes on incubation and that is what I understand for research) if the air cells are "wonky" or saddle. Keep and eye out for ones that pip in the small end--but if you set the eggs slightly tilted you will see them pip at the bottom usually.

Do not give up! they have not been sentenced to death yet.

I am assuming, turn off the incubators while I have them open so they don't have heart attacks in their little motors? Should I mist them while they are warm or while they are cooling? I mist duck eggs usually anyways but I have only done it a couple times with these and then thought maybe their air cells were too large for the extra evaporation. I'll candle tonight and try to get a better idea what the cells are doing....
The eggs in the styro are setting upright in the non-functioning turner and the eggs in the rcom are upright in cartons with holes cut out of the bottom.
Thanks for the hope

I would mist them before putting the lid back on the incubator.

Along with helping the air cell get bigger, misting causes gasses to move between the egg and the outside. It is very good for the embryo. Do watch the air cell size though.

Want.
Thank you for sharing!

Same here!

Got as far as I can tonight - will try to catch up tomorrow, but once again, thank goodness for Ron's Daily Digest!!!

I do not know of any that to that. It is not routine and involves vet checks and certificates. The country has to be on the list of Import Friendly for poultry too.

We cannon get eggs from places that have disease problems. Importing Ayem cemani from the Country they are from is impossible, so they have been imported from Sweden or one of those Nordic countries.

One thing that may be possible is to bring in Semen. You would of course have to have the same breed pullets but it is a way to get better genetics in.
