We have taught our children gun safety as well. Boy Scouts is really good with firearm safety as well. My 14 year old is looking forward to Shotgun shooting at Summer Camp this year.

The last time we took our kids shooting, my DH gave me his Colt 45 handgun (which I have only shot once) and told me to go practice with it. Due to having children and busy lives, I hadn't shot a gun in quite some time. So I went over to the handgun range, and nearby the 2 range masters were chatting. I walked past them and got ready and shot my target. When I was done, I collected my tight pattern of bullseye holes in the target and started to walk back to my DH. One of the men asked me how often I practice my shooting. I replied that I haven't shot in 12 years. Their faces just about dropped to the ground.

So, I go back to the kids and hand the gun to my husband, so he could practice. I showed him my target and he left to go shoot. He came back and said yeah yeah yeah and showed me his target that was not nearly as good. Then he said, "those guys are STILL talking about you over there." They told him - Man, you don't want to tick her off!
thats funny!!
My son is a little older and probably better at it then me. He is wanting to try out for the JROTC rifle team at school. Fingers Crossed!
Sounds like a plan.

Singing Incubator From Hell Update: Still movement in some of the eggs, though it is getting much harder to see. The humidity has been wicked high and being in GA it is already very high so the air cells have not grown much since the 7th! I don't think I will even add water to the thing at lock down at this point. Would you?

Yes, I would, the eggs need to stay soft, inside and out. Just don't put much in that thing!

I spotted a seeping egg!! Was looking in the incubator this evening and saw some hard glistening stuff. It was on a Marans egg that I had marked as questionable because all I saw from the start was a weird block dot. Glad I caught it now!

Well I suppose I have come to grips with it enough to talk about it now. My Wife (Jo) beats me everytime with a rifle. Handgun I can take her fairly easy. With a shotgun we are fairly close. I can take her on traps and anything smaller than 00 buckshot but when it comes to slugs she typically has the better shot. We have recently started teaching the kids (Be) and (Le) about gun safety and they have both shot my .22 with assistance. Not trying to get into a gun debate here but my logic and mentality is that if they are in the house I want everyone to know about the safety and operation thereof. I believe issues arise with a lack of knowledge and being uncomfortable with them. Proud to say my wife has shot all of my guns, knows how to load/unload, and knows simple mechanics and operation. Disassembly and cleaning is a different story but we will get there.

I totally agree with this philosophy.

Yep, I feel it's important that they are educated on guns so that they understand safety precautions. My folks taught us and had us all in hunter's safety classes early on. We will teach the boys when they are older and hopefully will instill a healthy respect for firearms and what they are capable of so that they will be safe. I agree that if they are in the house, it's just too big a risk to not have them educated. Too many tales of kids finding guns and dangerous accidents resulting.

Ugh, I think the whole house is damp. Haven't had humidity in a long time. LOL Great lightning storm last night.

Gotta go get some eggs packed up to ship. Had a good hatch yesterday, 20 new chicks in the brooder.

Weekend is too short, back to work.

Getting ready to candle for the 14th day (was drinking all day yesterday and could barely walk so waited) it's day 15. I'll post my findings in a bit.

Pulled 13 clear eggs from my Easter HAL, I should candle my broody's eggs tonight, she's got 11.

Current hatch almost complete. 7 turkeys and 7 chicks...we are over the moon with the turkeys they are sooooo cool.

Also....DH's started runs. It's going to be 3 breeder runs and 1 grown out pen. I need to get moving on the coop build now.

Awesome!

If there is still condensation in it, then do not add any more water. I really want you to hatch some! You have a great outlook on the whole not-so-great experience!

What guage shotgun? I've shot our 12 guage twice and it hurts like heck. (even holding it tight) I need to practice more with it.

I too have shot all of our guns - some are his, and some are mine. Yes, he does the cleaning. I clean the house, he cleans the guns. My least favorite is the 30-06. Ouch, even holding it tight to my shoulder, I still get a nice welt. My favorite is a 1903 Brittish Enfield that my grandmother gave me. My great-grandfather was a champion competition marksman in Australia, and this was his rifle that he used to shoot in competitions. (I have his trophy too) It is extremely rare, as it was converted to shoot .22 caliber.
