Heres a random question.... what does everyone prefer to use in their brooder?
only asking because Im using pine bedding and someone else recommended sand .
i use sand in my coop (which i love because its easy to clean )

Do you have plugs in your bator? If so pull them out.

I have also heard of people putting a dish of uncooked (raw/dry) rice in the bator, it will absorb the moisture and lower the humidity.

I use pine shavings. For the first week I use paper towel over the shavings so the chicks can get better footing.

I had high humidity issues last hatch and someone also suggested unpopped corn kernels - said it worked better than rice depending on how much you needed to take out.

Will Genesis replace it for me?
Is the ST1000 a kind of incubator? I'm not finding much about it online...

Oh, you have a genesis 1588. I thought you had an LG for hatching. The Genesis is a Digital incubator so most likely the heating element or the thrmostat is not working. Call GQF tomorrow morning and they can help figure out if you need to adjust or replace a part.

no plugs but I do have a 50lb bag of rice lol

i was always told to use newspaper for the first three days to teach the chicks what the feed looks like then to use pine shavings so you can compost them but if sand works for you use sand

Pine shavings that have been used with prior chicks, refreshed with a little bit new. Kinda like deep litter method in the brooder.

Well I am down to 77 eggs in the hatcher now. Candled last night before locking them down and found two quitters. Not too bad I think.

Yes, it is a Genesis 1588, as well as the other one that is working and my newest digital one. The 2 older ones do not have digital controls or display on top....and the newest one does.
