Love it!!!! What kind of hen is she and is she the biological mama?

The hen is a spangled/mottled Cubalaya. She is not the biological Mother, but the chick is also a Cubalaya.

Ditto Here!!! My hatch has officially started!!!

I heard a few faint peeps this afternoon and thought, oh good! I at least have an internal pipper! Then just a few minutes ago, I checked the eggs and... I HAVE A PIP!!!!

YAHOOOO!!!!

And it is still only day 19 for my eggs!!

The pipped egg is a Blue Barred Rock over a Partridge Rock hen. I am very interested to see what color and patterns the chick will have!

Came home to 2 pips, both in my filler Leghorns, Yippee.... I sure how I get more then those too. Its day 19 too Let the hatch and the no sleep being. This is so exciting!

Without planning to I joined in the hatch a long. Just locked down 16 quail eggs.

Also have the LF laying on their sides in bator #1 and the bantam in bator #2 propped up. First time trying the laying down.

Had to open the bator. Somehow my one hatched LF chick managed to knock an unhatched egg into to its opened eggshell. So that if the one started to pip or hatch it would be inside another shell. Glad I did, it was stuck in it pretty good.

A lot of firsts for me on this hatch.

I was blessed to be there when my broody hatched the first of her two eggs. She lifted herself momentarily just as the chick pushed out of the egg! I was so excited. But then mama pushed the chick under herself just like she'd been doing with the eggs. How do they not get crushed under there?
