The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

This is H.Thursday - a BLRW. She/he hatched last night, and mama was kind enough to give me a glimpse this morning. It is as content as can be, despite the 33 degrees. I officially love hatching with a broody! Now just waiting for the other egg to hatch - I could hear it peeping this morning.

So I have a baby as of about 5:45am MST. Brown Leghorn. Now what I want to hatch, just a filler egg, but hey we will take it. Going on day 20, not quite their yet. I have 4 other pips, and I sure hope my OE and my friends Ameraucana's start catching up. So far just the filler eggs. But I guess thats better then no chicks.

Do they count for the HAL, they were set to hatch on Saturday as day 21, they are just early. I was surprised, because my last hatch, they all hatched right at 21 days, like right on the day.

Anything you counted as set for the Easter hatch counts as hatched for the Easter hatch.

Update on the sick chick from last night.... she apparently feels a lot better. I woke up to her on the bedroom floor screaming at the big brooder at the chicks through the wall! She some how scaled the towel in her box. Should I put her back in with the others since they weren't picking on her??

I'm glad it's doing better. I would make sure it's eating,drinking, and moving around ok, then put her with the rest.

Pip pip hooray! I have a pip in a SS egg!

Congratulations! My SS eggs that are hatching are like little speed demons! I had 2 day 19 hatchers, then 3 more SS babies since last night. 3 more are pipped too...I had 11 /12 viable SS eggs go into lockdown. These chicks are very vigorous! Hope you get lots of little stripey chicks- they are so cute! I've only hatched BCM, BBS, and OE chicks the last few years, so getting the little chipmunk look ones again is fun!

Anything you counted as set for the Easter hatch counts as hatched for the Easter hatch.

I'm glad it's doing better. I would make sure it's eating,drinking, and moving around ok, then put her with the rest.

I know she is eating but haven't seen her drink yet. But I have been giving her drops of electrolytes all night so maybe just not thirsty. I feel so bad for her being alone.

I may have figured out how they are getting on the floor though.

Don't get to be home today, have 3 pipped Marans. One had a terribly dry membrane, moistened, refilled all the water troughs and cups, turned on my heater humidifier. Hoping all goes well with everyone today!

It's zipping now! Super fast too!

I don't hatch many chipmunk colored breeds either, so I'm excited! I imagine this chick will be tiny. The SS eggs are half the size of my Marans eggs.

This chick just basically exploded out of its egg! It zipped from start to finish in less than a minute! I've never seen anything like it!

Yep- same thing here with regards to egg size and zipping speed! Where did you get your SS eggs?
