I was wondering what you all do when you have eggs in your bator that are in cartons being shifted and some laying down. How do you handle that? I think that is why my eggs for this ate delayed. Im keeping the temps on top of the highest eggs 102* but that means the temps on top of the laying eggs is around 99* or so... I'm not sure what to do. Unless I find some way to raise those eggs up.

When I hatched that W Am, in 2011 as part of the Easter Hatchalong, I knew the chick would be light but was surprised by the lack of other color on it. The change from yellow chick to wheaten adult is fun to watch....of course the pullet change is not as dramatic as the cockerels. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!

Another one hatched while we were out working in the garden (tilling, adding garden soil, weeding, etc) Cute little light chicks! I'm just happy to hatch some light colored ones after all of the blue and black chicks I've hatched the past few years! I have a very light Ameraucana chick, these 2 (so far) Wheaten Maran chicks and 9 Speckled Sussex chicks (+ 2 BCM chicks) hatched so far in this HAL. A BYM egg that is on day 19 is pipped already too...glad I put them in the hatcher last night! Lots of activity around here these days!

Ducks in charge!

I only have one duck, but he tells the 6 dogs what they can or can not do. He herds the Dachshunds and he lets the Dobermans drink out of the water dish as long as he can play with their ears.
This all may change once he has his own duck flock, but for now the dogs are his flock. My cats are scared to death of almost all birds. Your ducks may teach your cat to think twice about messing with birds. :)

The ducks do rule the roost and the cat thinks the chickens outside are fun to run at. Well except the meat birds because they think the cat is food.

Sticky goop

Okay, the LF are coming out just nice. But I did have one silkie 3/4 zip and died. Have a another silkie that pipped over 24 hours, so checked on it. Sticky goop is what I found all around the pip. Went ahead cleaned goop and membrane is pretty much veinless.

Why would there be sticky goop?

d'uccle had no goop and silkie that 3/4 zipped didn't. Humidity is still the same. (57)

Any suggestions?

She didn't make it. But worried about the other bantams. None of them are doing any thing yet.

Any suggestions?

Lol! This little brat did not exert one bit of effort in the hatching process, except for the internal pip. I did every bit of it, and it was sloooow going. But, the success feels great. I still have 4 eggs in but, you know...they were due yesterday, so not holding my breath...HOWEVER I do believe in miracles..

That's what I was afraid of...
I'll have to really be on top of these if they make it to hatch time. Hatch dates are 23-24. The little serama finished hatching okay by himself. He was a few days late though and in the same incubator as the ducks. I put all the bad air cell eggs in the r-com incubator together so I could hand turn them and watch them better. With all the cooling down periods for the duck eggs plus a couple power outages, I probably slowed down the little Seramas too much. The others quit the day they should have been hatching and they were not developed enough. Wondering what the duck egg timing will be. If it is going to be delayed or not. Hopefully we'll get to the point where I can find out!
Glad that Piper had you to help her out!

I would love to see her.  I love my silkies.   And my bantam cochins.   :)
well i forgot to take a pic cause i was to busy candling her eggs. Speaking of candling her eggs look amazing i swear i was almost crying, the veining was so perfect and all of them are healthy . For having three ducks eggs she is doing wonderful. Only three more weeks cause shes on swedish ducks eggs. :D

How do you tell an internal pip?

If you hear chirping and no external pip then it's already pipped internally.

I had an early hatch a few years ago and candled day 18 to find many had already pipped internally. No air sac, all chick. They hatched the next day into day 20. Incubate at accurate temperature anymore.
