Final count 1st Hatch- 27/45 with 11 clears, some from my mixed girls and some from purchased locally eggs, 2 early quitters and 5 chicks that never pipped. I am pleased with the results. 27 gorgeous babies running around and doing great so far. Only 9 out of 24 bought eggs(well bought 10 and they gave me 14 more), so still not bad. Ended up with 1 Coronation Sussex (oh please be a girl), 1 Barnevelder, 3 Heritage Delaware, 2 olive eggers, and 2 Lavendar Orps. The other 18 are from my girls covered by an EE roo. They are every color you can imagine. From a black eyed, black beaked, black chick to chipmunks, a chocolate, and a yellow with black "ink" spots. They're precious! So excited! Thanks again to you all!! I learned so much from so many of you.

So the 5 didn't make it? I'm so sorry I didn't get your pm until later! We were out cleaning out straw from the big and smaller run. We had put a lot in, quite the job today. then cleaned out the larger coop. Sooo glad that is done. So, you have 27 babies. Did you post a photo of them? Sounds like some great colors going on.

Still no action from my eggs...

They were definitely alive at lockdown. It'll be extremely disappointing if none make it, since I had a 0% hatch for the New Years hatchalong. Not to mention I'm dying to see if the little silkie egg is a showgirl!

I take that back! I just checked again and in the few minutes since I posted, the silkie egg has a pip!! :weee About durn time!
For the record again, I'm waiting on 3 chicken eggs here, since 0/10 of my quail hatched and I was a dunce and set the 3 mixed duck eggs too late and they aren't due til Sunday. These eggs: one is from a buff silkie who's been running with a white silkie roo, red silkie roo, and black showgirl roo (please be a sg, please be a sg :fl). One is from a LF EE, daddy unknown but probably either silkie or buff brahma, and the other is a bantam egg probably from a Leghorn, daddy unknown but same probability. Should be fun babies if they hatch. :fl

Here is the little HAL cockatoo, (squawkatoo).
Awwww.... like a budgie, only fuzzier!

Is it standing, or leaning?

Just saw this on fb..what? I heard the 21st. Oh well, will go out and look anyway at midnight.

The 2014 Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak in the early morning on Tuesday, April 22, from midnight until dawn -- it will continue to be visible through April 25.

Found this when I googled. :) Looks like we all have a chance for some clear skies.

Yeah, I read (from NASA..think I trust them more than FB lol) it's been going on since the 16th, but tonight is the peak. Apparently happens this time every year. The meteorites are actually comet dust about the size of grains of sand, yet we can see them so clearly!?! Supposed to be able to see it best just before the moon rose (too late for that) and just before dawn this morning. I stood out on the porch (we live in the boonies..big, clear, dark sky) but didn't see anything. Have to get up before dawn anyways to get kiddo ready for school, so I'll see if anything's visible then.
