I love snakes - such efficient predators of mice and they're native, unlike cats or the chickens and I for that matter that are invasive.
The snakes can get into the places where the mice hide. I encourage them to hang out here along with all the native reptiles and amphibians. I hate it when my chickens eat frogs and lizards.

I agree. I love snakes. I am so happy that my father taught me to really appreciate them. When I was very little we would go "snake hunting" which meant taking a pillow case to a nearby field with a stream. Dad had an uncanny ability to know which rock a snake would be under. He would say "Michelle, I'm gonna lift this rock up, and a snake is going to shoot out that side, and I want you to catch it". It amazed me how often he was right. I rarely could catch them, lol! He would drop the rock and catch them himself, into the pillowcase they would go. At the end of the day we would take our catch home and put them in an aquarium, play with them for a couple of days and then back to the stream and let them go. My mother HATED it! I miss those days.

is that last one a boy?

Hey! I was thinking it's a girl! lol...the wings aren't bumped up high, and there are two layers of feathering going on in the wing tips..I know, I know, can't go by wing tip sexing by all breeds. But I try!

Plus the comb..only a single row of a pea looking comb..not a three row.

As a snake owner and my best friend breeds them (ball pythons) I agree.... i love my reptiles! The chickens can stick to eating the field mice but hopefully they leave the snakes in the yard alone :)

there are single comb variety wyandottes. They don't meet SoP but they are still a wyandotte.

I'm not sally, but sometimes wyandottes throw chicks with straight combs so it is probably just a wyandotte someone didn't want to breed.
