I dunno what to set on Saturday!!!

I have some barnyard mixes I could do, but my EE are laying where I can't find the eggs. Have some layer flock Xs, or Iowa Blues. And I always have Norwegian Jaerhons to set. Wish I could find more EE eggs but haven't. Tho' I may crate them overnight and hope for a couple green eggs tomorrow!!! Missed the goose egg date but have 2 Pilgrim eggs sitting on my counter now too. <sigh>

Any suggestions? Sometimes I just want to be told what to do!

Yay, for more eggs!! Not sure of totals yet but Icelandics, of course, silkies, maybe some Trader Joe's fertile eggs if they have them when I am there on Saturday and possibly a few from a couple of neighbors....total will be posted on Sunday. :thumbsup Totally agree that eggs traveling by air arrive in better condition and that bouncing in a truck or delivery vehicle is a problem!! Yum, on the chocolate eggs............oh, chocolate egger.......yeah..those too! Hooray for Icelandic eggs!!!

I love barnyard mixes!!! ATM mine are all barnyard mixes. I am getting some spithauben eggs for this hatch and they will be my first purebreds, but I am also getting more mixes!!!

So the eggs keep piling up, don't think I can fit them all in the incubators....there goes my "set all the eggs I get this week" plan. :(

Haven't had eggs for 3 months now, and now I'm getting the full load daily...all week...I think they know. haha

Sweet wish mine would get the hint

Thinking of an experiment......

I ship eggs in the largest size priority box. I'm thinking, what if I run a string back and forth through the middle, set the carton of eggs on that, run the string over the carton and through the box again...? Okay, hard to explain. In other words, the carton of eggs will be secured and suspended in the middle of the box. What do you think? Would it give them the needed shock suspension to not get jiggled to death....?
Go to the great egg shipping experiment thread and read it.

Egg cartons are a bad choice for shipping eggs. The method described in the thread does what you are describing in a better way.

So... is there anyway I can stack extra eggs on top of the other ones in the egg turner to put more in? Will they be moved with the other eggs when the turner rotates? Or do I just need to toughen up and only choose what will fit in the egg turner? I'm having the same "problem" as LeviS. All of a sudden I'm getting 18 eggs a day and I can't choose!!!!! I've been keeping the best looking ones since last monday, and I can only fit 42 in my turner, but I've got at least 60 that I would like to hatch.

I know I shouldn't go with really bullet or round shaped ones, but most of them are perfect!!!!! I need to candle them to check for good air sacks, right? Is there anything else I should be doing/looking for in good eggs?
