Thanks, Cynthia
We're up in the cold, cold north - will keep the incubator inside but want to be sure we have adequate humidity control, since it's more dry while the furnace is running in the house. There are elaborate incubators with automatic external humidifiers ($$$) but is it just as adequate to use a sponge or pan of water & a monitor? I also read about maintaining 20% oxygen concentration - yikes stripes...
I do a dry incubation during the first 17 days and just monitor humidity percentages and air cell size then at lockdown I fill my water wells and add two-three wet sponges. It works well for me and when it starts to decrease all I do is slip open the bator and grab the sponges out and wet and replace. I don't monitor oxygen but I have my vent plugs out for the duration of the incubation.

For me, life gets in the way of hand turning. Because of an irregular schedule, hand turning was not as good as the auto turner FOR me. Others that use an auto turner also allow their eggs to cool down for an hour or so once they are 8 days old and before lockdown starts. That is supposed to help the hatch rate too. I have not tried the cool down yet as seeing started eggs out of the incubator for more than a few minutes would be a stress trigger for me.
I do not have a "cool down" period, but I am a candling addict so once a day they get a brief cool down while I candle a few out of the batch...lol

Hey, not bad at all!

I didn't think so....lol
I have a 20 year old little giant bator and it has no accessorys and its also starting to fall apart. So I went to tsc and got a pro series bator with all accessorys so now I have one for ducks one for chickens

See the difference i love the new one since it has the turner and the air fan to circulate so im all set for the hatch a long
I'd love to know what you think after you use this. I've been eyeing them. The LG I've been using is technically my sister's (even though I told her she wasn't getting it back...lol) but I am considering buying my own, and I liked the price of this one considering it was forced air and had the turner included.

Ok, Thanks!

Still deciding what to set for the event. Does anyone in the brutally cold north like I am have any luck with shipped eggs at this time of year?
I have girls laying, but would have to stalk my nest boxes to even have a chance at grabbing eggs before they got too cold to set.
Should I just suck it up and travel out of state for my waterfowl eggs?

Have you treated for cocci? Checked for lice/mites? Wormed recently? Those are my usual culprits when someone is under the weather.
