What medicine do you use

I use 20% corid powder.

Still deciding what to set for the event. Does anyone in the brutally cold north like I am have any luck with shipped eggs at this time of year?
I have girls laying, but would have to stalk my nest boxes to even have a chance at grabbing eggs before they got too cold to set.
Should I just suck it up and travel out of state for my waterfowl eggs?

I have 19 babies in the brooder right now that came from shipped eggs. They're 2 weeks old now so they came to me right around the second week of January. There was no heat pack in with them but we made arrangements for the post office to hold the eggs for me to pick them up. Worked out great

She has been having problems since I got her we think it was because he never took care of his chooks. Im very upset but she lived a good life at my place

That's good to hear! Our forecast for the next few weeks is in the single digits and negative numbers. I'm going to have to arrange to get eggs in the first week of March to set on time, and there doesn't seem to be any signs of the weather improving by then. It sounds like if they are handled right though, they can survive the chilly trip up here!

Are Frizzles hard to take care of? They are beyond cute!

They might need some things the other chickens don't.They can't really fly, so maybe making lower perches for them . I have only one frizzle, and, for some reason, the older hens pick on him , pulling out his tail and crest feathers. I don't know if it's because he looks different or what.
He can't jump to even the foot high perch. He sleeps all by himself on the floor of the coop. I was worried because of it getting so cold, and him not having any one to cuddle with. I got a heater called Cozy Legs and wedged it again a wall in the coop. I hope that's enough, it's supposed to get down to 3° this week .

Mine is somewhat of an outcast, but maybe that would be different if I had more than one.

Fingers crossed my roosters will be old enough for fertile eggs for easter! It would be fun to add some of my flock to the hatch .

This thread moves fast! I think for the HAL I will try to hatch a few 2nd Generation Olive Eggers and/or some black sexlinks, unless my Australorp cockerel kicks it into gear and I start getting fertile eggs from his girls.Nothing too exciting, but it would be so much fun to have them Easter morning.


I do have a question, can someone give me an idea of the sorts of prizes usually given out? I kind of want to provide some prize or other, but I don't want to offer something and have it be the worst prize given out.

Hm, I actually find that it's moving fairly slow right now. Prizes can be just about anything chicken or fowl related! They tend to range. Eggs, chicken themed kitchen items, hen saddles, and all kinds of stuff have been given out in past Hals. If you can think of it, it could be a prize.

I wouldn't worry about anything being the worst prize ever. Its all for fun so im sure any prize is greatly appreciated and welcomed.

Some examples might include fertile hatching eggs, chicken related books, pictures, egg signs, gift cards, homemade items, egg baskets. Anything really Im sure there are tons more but that is just off the top of my head. There is no wrong answer.

I have that problem with my polish/silkie. She's a sweetheart, but I have her separated right now because the others pick on her and grab her crest feathers. Every once in a while they'll give my silkie some crap, but not like the polish/silkie.
