First, we are a very small group of volunteer moderators. We cannot possibly see, let alone verify the accuracy of everything our thousands of members have posted on this site. Just like everywhere else on the internet, there is false information out there.

Secondly, it may have worked well for that person. Every location is different, as is every incubator. But just because it works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. We all live in different climates, and that changes how we have to incubate.

The key for you is to remove those plugs and let more oxygen in for those chicks, so they can hatch. Good luck.

Thanks, I actually did get a Brinsea :D
Yay! :) Happy hatching to you.
:clap Congrats right back!! You forgot a lot of sleepless nights...lol For three weeks I didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time in order to check the bator and make sure there were no temps spikes in the middle of the night...lol
Oh bless you. I don't feel so bad now about getting up at 2 am to turn my eggs ;)
There were many great entries! It was very, very close, but we had to choose 2 winners.

Congratulations! There were so many pictures there I loved :D

Well, today is day 19 for us. Went into lock-down yesterday. No signs of chicks hatching yet. Can you see movement if your eggs are hatching in egg cartons? When do they start to cheep? I am really scared that our lose wire temperature spike did them in

Wish me luck!

I went to our local TSC and they had Blue Andalusian chicks for $1.99 ea. and I soooo wanted to get some, but the hubby gave me "the look" so I guess I'll just have to wait and see how ours hatch. Foo!

Should I be worried? A few eggs were shaking last night and one this morning and nothing since. I set on Saturday so day 21 is tomorrow. This is my first hatch. I'm trying to be patient, but seeing all these hatches on here makes me wonder..

Do not worry!

Seeing eggs moving is a great sign.

@Happy Chooks true, but isn't that a published article, and not just a forum thread? Since it's been brought to attention, maybe it should be reviewed? I assumed that published articles went through some sort of quality control (unlike the forum, which I assume are more personal opinions)

I used this link above for the directions that I used.  It seemed legit... It is on this website and I thought it was credible.  It directly conflicts what you are telling me but my chicks died after pipping so you must be correct.  If it is not accurate, and it seems its not, maybe someone that is a moderator can research a little bit and have it taken down.  In the bottom 3rd of the post, the directions clearly state to put in one plug at day 18 and the other at day 20.

Thank you for your response to me!  I hope that I can figure it out and try again sometime.  Maybe now that the plugs are out the remaining 6 can hatch normally.  I have my doubts at this point but chickens get eggs to hatch and their environments aren't perfect.

Yeah. I see what you mean, the article says to use the plug to plug the incubator. I think that is bad advice but I'm not the one to change the article. Maybe a moderator should look into that.

I kinda did what you refer to...

Yes similar... My one hatchling doesn't seem like it has enough room to actually get out of the egg shell

I sholdnt have put so many in 1 strawberry carton. Is it a problem for them to stay in the egg while drying off while waiting for others to hatch?
