You have been lured in. Muhahahaha!

3 pips. No chicks yet. This hatch is so stressful! I have to leave early tomorrow for an agility trial. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Maybe they'll all be hatched by the time I get home.

Hatch rates will be lower for eggs older than 2 weeks. Shipped eggs should not be older than 7 days because of the added stress from shipping.

Older eggs will still hatch--I would not set eggs older than 30 days and if I did I would watch them very closely for rotting.

Thank you ron for this information!

Is there any way of telling if the egg is porus by looking at it? I've never had much luck at candling my eggs. They're kinda dark.

If you're having trouble candling, they're probably not porus. That is just my thought.
When I have dark eggs I always put brand new batteries in the flashlight and it helps a lot. Now I just use my hubby's high dollar rechargeable flashlight.

Can I hatch a long too?
I have guineas and they are not listed in the above, but it would be fun to participate too if its OK.

Wow, how many days does it take to hatch guineas?

Are they noisy when grown? We have acreas but we live in a neighborhood too.

I think you will be very welcome to join this hatch along. Have fun. :)

Yes and Welcome!

Guinea take 28days so set day is March 7th. They are listed in the first post just squished in with the ducks and turkeys.

I had a real hard time at first. With that being said, I have some very nice darker brown eggs but none like the rich chocolate darkish eggs. Now to my point, I realized the light you are using make the world of difference. I had tried several I had, even my sons tactical light, thinking the brighter the better. It may work on dark dark eggs, but it was to bright to really see anything. I had found a smaller led light was much better. With this light I could finally see something, however, not as well as I thought. I even taped a small box around it and had to go into the dark bathroom to see anything. But, I was finally happy I could see something. Many people make their own light set up. I just decided to order a new incubator so I opted to add the candling flash light they offer with some setups. I figures for a few extra dollars I would see it if made a difference. WOW, I can candle some of my eggs in the light now. Huge difference from what I was using. So, I guess long story short after a lot of rambling on, the type, bulbs, and brightness makes a huge difference. I have also read where some people with the very dark eggs don't even candle because they cant see anyway.
