I wouldn't say anything. i just got it and when he saw it, it was too late. I would get eggs thru the swap thread and most of the time he didn't know till they hatched. He don't complain anymore. He knows it's a waste of his time and mine because I'm gonna do it anyway. I don't go overboard with it and my chickens gives me something to do and keeps my mind busy. Plus the chicks are so adorable.
All I have to do is get it into the office before he sees it

...once it's there he'll never know untill the chicks start popping

My only dilema at this point is I'm not sure I want to test a new hatcher on the expensive English Orpington eggs I have coming on March 5.

Maybe I should set the Orps on the 5th and then add my bantams on March 14 so that I can join the HAL. Then when the Orps are ready for lockdown; I could move the bantams to the cheap bator for a few days while the Orps hatch in the Brinsea...

Open to suggestions...

Sounds like a good idea. You have time to get it adjusted that way. When you put your eggs in and the temp is too low wrap a towel around it but leave a window uncovered so you can keep an eye on the temp and humidity

For those with brooding baby chicks in your future. I highly recommend a non-light producing heat source. That way, after the first 3 days when I have a light on day and night, I can provide a more natural hemeral light pattern. I just got a notice that this ceramic emitter is half price till March 1 with free shipping.

They're also more efficient. They can break but if they do, they don't make the mess a lamp makes when it breaks. I've been using them for years and had one break and it just cracks around the neck.
They also come in various wattages from 50-300.
Thank You for posting this link! I have a poor broody that has been under a red heat light with her baby for going on 8 weeks now. Every time I go out there I say to myself I need to take the light away, its just not natural for them to have it 24 hours. I am buying this today! Thanks!

Im so eggcited for this hatch!!!!! I cant wait! I thought I wouldn't be in town for easter, but im getting surgery on my ankle a week or so before, so I don't think travling will happen....BUT HEY! it opens a door to hatching....and at least id have an excuse to full the bator this time! right?

Yes..... I getting more CCLs for this hatch so I can have unrelated birds to start my breeding. I'm also going to put a few hens with a aracauna too and a few EE hens with a CCL too.
