So I am thinking of getting a digital thermostat for my Little Giant Styrobater because with the set up at our new house, I won't be able to put the incubator in a place where I can check on it as often as I would like to, especially at night. I would feel much better being able to set the thermostat to an exact temperature instead of fiddling back and forth with the little temp knob, even with a milk cap screwed on it!

I think Oz recommended this model - http://www.amazon.com/Lerway-All-Pu...=UTF8&qid=1424809413&sr=8-1&keywords=stc-1000 but this one is only in Celcius, and I would rather have Farenheit. I found two options on Amazon, and wonder if they look ok to those of you who have done this sort of thing before....

OR

And also, do I need to get any other electrical connectors or wiring to attach it to the LG? Are there precise directions on how to do that on BYC somewhere?

THANKS!!!

Interesting article (or interesting to people like us) about the history of chickens as domesticated animals. It was printed in Smithsonian magazine.

Finally caught up on all the posts. I still don't know what I am going hatch Kinda depends on who is laying eggs.
I have a wide range of pure bloods to chose from if they get on the ball and start laying.
How long do we have to post the setting?
Wish my brahmas would start laying.

Ugg, the HAL hatch date is a work-weekend for me. I'll miss the exciting part! But I guess I won't get that stressed since work doesn't usually allow much outside thought (vet tech 24/7 hospital). At least the set date is not a work weekend so I can just sit there and watch the eggs do nothing after I put them in the bator!

Still don't know what to set tho'. Will probably load up a Mini with another round of Jaerhon eggs first, but I have a nice batch of barnyard mixes saved that might be fun for the HAL. If they're not too old. Might try and see what happens, they're all from my laying flock so at least not shipped. Decisions decisions. And already planning for a third, *bigger* bator. <sigh> Better think about grow out pens too!! Wonder if I'll have any goose eggs for the HAL.... hmm....

Does anyone know of anyone who is selling goose hatching eggs? My goose decided to abandon her clutch last night, and after being such an attentive mother, let the whole batch freeze... I only have a small number of eggs due in for the HAL, and two incubators to fill, so replacing the loss of my 2015 generation geese has gone up considerably in priority...

I can not think of anybody, I will keep my eyes pealed

Aww, bummer. My Pilgrims aren't laying yet, not that I blame them with this wonky weather. I can let you know when they start but probably won't be in time for the currently qued up HALs.
