54 chicken eggs set between incubator and broody.

I have one more broody and if she sits tight I'll give her eggs tomorrow and get in the +/-2 days.

Going to add quail too.

Someone asked what the lay cycle for quail is and I completely forgot about it. I have Coturnix (Japanese) Quail and their lay cycle is normally 2 years and then they stop laying. My girls are almost 2. They picked up laying for a while and now they have completely stopped. Tomorrow I'll be setting some slightly older eggs (less than 2 weeks old, but older than a week) and I don't have a ton of confidence that enough of them will hatch. I'll have to add to the bloodline to get to where I can actually hatch them regularly after this.

In other news, I got tired of hand turning (that was fast) and set up some 'carton turners'. I used to have 2 pieces of 1 1/2 in pvc pipe cut to the length of a carton for the base, but I haven't seen them in years. I just cut out a couple cups from a damaged carton and taped them to the bottom of my cartons. Ah, gotta love redneck ingenuity.

I candled the eggs to check for any more I might have cracked and noticed that I might have two early blood rings.

I'll give them till day 7 or 9 before I toss them. It's too early to tell.

Eggs are official in the incubator! I set a TOTAL OF 71 eggs in two incubators.

36 Cream Legbar in one incubator
35 mixed breeds in the other incubator (hens covered by Cream Legbar male and Black Copper Marans male) This should be a fun assortment of colorful egg layers!

I ended up adding ONE more Cream Legbar egg tonight. So that brings my NEW TOTAL TO 72 EGGS.

Due to sharing eggs for the HAL, I did not set quite as many as planned, and that is A-OK because I have two bators that are hatching LATE and they better clear out because my third one I set eggs infor this HAL is chuck full so I can spread them into the others tomorrow haha!

My final number set will be 93. Yes, they are all crammed in one. !! LOL
