Quarantine new to your place chicks and chickens. If you hatch them at your place then you do not need to quarantine.

Depending on the breed and the size of chicks, you can combine up to a week or two difference in age. The trick to to make sure that the bigger ones do not think that the littler ones are dinner.
Got it, Thanks so much!

Candled my 29 Dominique eggs last night. Only 4 were clear. 15 I saw wigglers. 10 were too dark for me to see very well, not the egg shell but where the chick is forming. My first time incubating, first time candling. Some of the ones with wrigglers had been in the fridge 2 weeks. Rooster moved to the country without me Feb 25th. Using an LG 9300 dry, with a USB powered external case fan, plugged into a spare USB wall plug. It's in a little stand that angles it back some, and I have it pointed at the back wall. Temps holding fairly steady throughout. So far. Knock on wood.

Great going!

Disappointment with my shipped eggs. It is day 8. Only 1 seems to be developing. 2 blood rings. The rest look like quitters. All the air cells are detatched. The ones from my hens are looking great so nothing to do with the incubator. I have more shipped eggs arriving Monday. I almost dread it.

I'm so sorry Lisa. Will cross my fingers they are late starters.

Hey! I never "calibrated" my thermometer, should I? Can someone tell me how?
It's a mercury thermometer with an aluminum casing

Fill a bowl with ice and then fill with water. Let sit for 3-5 min and stick the thermometer in. Wait a couple minutes and it should read 32`. Mine is like that and they lock them in that casing without making sure they are accurate. I figured out how off mine was and then stuck a tiny piece of tape right where i needed my temp to be.
