@Chicken Picken

I bought six of the Spot Check's batteries (I have two) and when I use them down to two, I buy 6 more. This way, I always have a fresh battery to put in if I need it. I am a bit CDO about it......

That is a good idea. I think I will buy a few that way I will have back ups for later. I feel just terrible about all the could have been chicks that likely wont make it. I had 35 eggs in that bator, plus I put in 4 more a week later.

I wonder if it is possible for some of them to catch up on development even if they take a few days longer to hatch. Anyone have experience with accidentally running the bator too cool and have eggs that are very developmentally behind. Im expecting a zero hatch from this incubator but I try to be hopeful.

My bator was about two degrees off and I had two chicks hatch Day 23, and two hatch Day 24. I had several pip and die, and I think that was a humidity-related problem. Had my humidity been correct, I could have had about four more (maybe). I had 18 set.

Well, after several weeks of totally clear ground, we woke up this morning to SIX INCHES of snow covering everything!!!

NOT what we were expecting, since the forecast had been wavering between 1-3 inches, or less than 1 inch of snow or rain! It looks pretty on the trees, but it is very heavy and will be a MESS in the next couple of days as we are supposed to get over 60º with possibly MORE rain!

In other news, last night when I turned my eggs I candled all of them and removed obvious quitters, and re-arranged the rest in preparation for lockdown tonight. Sadly, I am down to only 6 left of my shipped Wheaten Ameraucanas. A lot of them had damaged air-cells from the travel, and while I was as careful as I could with them, I guess they were too damaged to fully develop.

Really hoping that these last six are able to hatch!!!

One of them has a pretty large saddle air-cell, and I will be keeping a close eye on it at hatch time. Out of my farmyard eggs, I pulled two late quitters, but the rest look great, so that leaves me with a total of 31 eggs going into Lockdown tonight!

Come on little chickies! You can make it!!!

I know they're not chickens, but I saw TWO ROBINS, yesterday evening, out by my chicken coop! Spring has officially made it to the swamp of northeast Michigan!
