My temp has been very iffy my humidity will NOT go above 30% and I've just locked down 4/7 fingers crossed I get something but not holding my breath. First time using this bator, will be last too grrrr

I put my eggs into lock-down tomorrow. Did a quick candle today to see if i need to toss any. One that i was sure quit moved! So glad I didn't toss it. 18/20 will go into lock-down. These are shipped eggs and most have bad air cells. I am hopeful but afraid none will hatch. I am going to hatch in cartons to hopefully improve the odds.

Me too- I've got shipped eggs that I REALLY care about, so I'm hatching in cartons- I've even had terrible nightmares about those eggs

Good luck to you!

I am hatching mixed Marans .and remember reading something about them having problems with hatching using normal humidity or something... I have been doing a dry hatch and am about to put them in Lockdown. What should I put the humidity at?

Regular lockdown humidity should be fine, somewhere around 60-65%

The thing with Marans is patience. They might take awhile to pip and then zip. They might not pip through the outer membrane with their first try. It's okay - they can breathe. Patience! Hands off!

I think the strawberry container is a great solution. However if you're trying to separate the others just placing them in the carton bottoms isn't going to work. Unless you can tell those chicks apart visually. Go buy more strawberries!! ;)

X2! I was concerned about how to keep my pure marans seperated from my 3/4 Marans/brahma chicks. I have a TON of strawberry containers. A couple will be in the bator by tonight with my mixes in them :)

I've had great results with dry hatching my marans. I keep my lockdown humidity about 70%

You have to put something heavy on top of the strawberry containers to keep the little houdinis from escaping.
I use mesh drawstring bags for pedigreeing.

I saw some post somewhere with a link to some shrimp bags I think but can't find anywhere. They were an even better idea than the strawberry container. Do you have a pic of the bags you use?

I need to make correction. I stated that I had chicks hatching on day 19, well I refigured it is actually day 20. Still though it is a day early, 5 so far.
