First, we are a very small group of volunteer moderators. We cannot possibly see, let alone verify the accuracy of everything our thousands of members have posted on this site. Just like everywhere else on the internet, there is false information out there.

Secondly, it may have worked well for that person. Every location is different, as is every incubator. But just because it works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. We all live in different climates, and that changes how we have to incubate.

The key for you is to remove those plugs and let more oxygen in for those chicks, so they can hatch. Good luck.

Done! the plugs are out! I was not complaining about the Moderators by any means. There is a lot of activity on this site and I don't think it is reasonable that you could catch every post and article. However, if having the plugs in is dangerous because it cuts out the oxygen, that would seem to be universal in all climates. I am a novice so I am not saying that I know more than anyone here. I am sure that following that advice has caused, at least in part, my chicks to die. If there is dangerous advice out there and it is brought to your attention, I just hope that it will be evaluated. Thank you for your response! and thank you for the work you do!

Well I candled. I couldn't help it! And there are LOTS of internal pips. I'm so afraid I'll wake up to chicks that I can't tell apart. :/ I bought the craft mesh to make the dividers but got in such a panic that I didn't do it. There's really not room, anyway.

I never even counted how many went to lockdown.

Show of hands… Who set their eggs on SATURDAY the 14th and is still waiting with absolutely no signs of hatching?

No pips, zips, or chicks. Still just eggs!
My broody started these eggs, so I can't say the exact start, but she slept in the nest for the 1st time on Sat, March 14th.
I saw a wiggling egg Tues night, so I put them into lockdown on Wed instead of Thurs.

Note: the hen is fine, but she was needed for my daughter's 4H project. We slipped the new, experimental eggs under the broody & decided to incubate her orig eggs in an incubator.

Who knows what the comb and wattles will look like. I'd imagine they'd be white, as their skin lacks pigment.

most chicken combs and wattles lack pigment-the red you see is blood, that is also why most albino animal eyes are red (not humans usually-they are blue), the red you see is because there is no pigment to block the blood colour.
