I just did an eggtopsy on my partially zipped egg. The shell was about a quarter of the way zipped. The chick was dead. It had turned in the shell, without zipping, so it was pointed at the opposite side from where the zip was. Why would this have happened? I have another partially zipped right now that I'm worried about. He's making a lot of noise, and flexing against the shell, but no new zip in the past hour. I think he might have turned, too, and not zipped all the way. Same parents as the dead chick, egg the same size and shape. I'm really worried about him right now.

Help!
I had a Lavender Ameraucana pip the wrong end then stop Moving, so I assisted, but then the membrane started bleeding from inside. I stopped right away when the bleeding happens, then the chick started peeping.
Should I stop the bleeding or just put the egg back hole end up?

Does it have 5 toes? If so it's possible it's a silkie. Ayam Ceramis and Avart Honas are black on black, but I don't see a seller throwing them in w/o purchase.

No just 3. It's so weird he told me they were from the Ghost barred leghorn roo and red layer he had so I expected them all to be yellow/white but 2 more dark one just hatched but without black legs.

put it back and wait a couple of hours--Should not be too much blood.

First chick out at 6am. Others are pippin' & zippin'. This is so perfect since our grandkids are here visiting & they are seeing their first hatching. Also pretty cool since the first day they were here, one of our hens laid an egg right in front of them, so they are getting to see the whole process. So eggciting for these city slicker kids (and for grandma to be able to share this with them)!

I am also very far behind! Hard to keep up with so much but I do want to sit in the evening and at least skim through! I may miss something really good otherwise! ;)

This is my first hatch so it's all good! So far I have 4 chicks hatched and hopefully 21 more but I highly doubt my 8 marans are actually going to hatch. Dang that dark shell!

Cinco de Mayo will depend if my silkies are broody at the right time. I have to give back the borrowed incubator. :(

I had a brain dead moment, I know the end colors of my babies I am hatching so I decided not to put the divider in to keep breeds separate. I had not made it prior to setting the eggs and did not want to take them out to build it. After they hatched, I soon realized that some of them hatch pretty much the same color, so now I will have to wait to know for sure who is who.
Oh, I was just playing a game. I had them separated inside the bator with plastic containers. And the ones that were not separated (I confused to EE eggs for Legbars eggs) I banded them as soon as they hatched plus they were pretty obvious.

Did any of the Australorp crosses hatch yet? Both of mine are out now and both are black with whiteish eyeliner...
